Where did you get it for $13?

13€. Direct2Drive has the payday sale this weekend, which reduced the price to 23, and I had a voucher for 10 off.
Shogun is an awesome game. Too bad EVERY [censored] COUNTRY DECLARED WAR ON ME IN ONE TURN AND RUINED IT. Jesus. I've been fighting them all off for ( game ) years and gained a bit of territory, but there are just too many. Plus they destroyed my trade monopoly and now I'm broke.

Hehe, yeah, once you're at that point the difficulty just spikes. A huge freaking wall of spikes. Shameful display.

Ah that's pretty cool. I'll have to wait till a sale or until I have some money before I get shogun 2 then.

Also, just completed my "Imperial Psychopath" campaign on Napoleon. Declare war on everybody first turn, never make peace, conquer 60 countries. Finished the campaign in December 1911 (a year ahead of schedule) and then spent the remaining year to mop up all the other countries (Britain, Spain and a couple of islands in the med.). Also went and conquered Hungary which had been my protectorate since near enough the start of the game. Just cos I'm a bastard.

Took 6 attempted invasions (full stack per invasion) to take Sardinia, which was a bit of a surprise considering they only had the second barracks, and very little income. I was raking in 30k a turn (after expenses) by the time I'd taken Paris, and on low taxes as well. There wasn't one disgruntled citizen in my Russian empire :)

According to steam, there's only 0.6% of the people who play the game get that achievement

I'm making a Fallout conversion mod for Medieval 2 (Originally it was RTW, but I ported it) and it's similar to the Third Age mod.

Made a thread about it in the Fallout series discussion, but yeah.

There is a mod on twcenter that reduces (and a different version of it that completely removes) the effects of Realm Divide. You are talking about the point were you have captured Kyoto or the Shogunate has declared war on you?

I captured Kyoto then became shogun after four turns. Everything was cool. End my first turn as shogun and every clan declared war on me.

Search for that mod on TWcenter, search for 'realm divide' under mods or something. You can download the one where nobody declares war, or the one where only clans with bad relations with you declare war.

Well it's a little late now. :P It's not all bad. It shows the AI has priorities. Ruthless, unwavering priorities.

I played the Shogun 2 demo, but I'm not good at these games at all. Especially the RTS part. :P

New to these forums and saw this thread and had to poke my head in, Just recently finish a campaign with chosokabe on very hard, which didn't seem all too difficult as your island is quite easy to protect especially if you align with the Mori, In my next play through I am going to play as the Hattori and attempt legendary which looks to be quite a challenge and ill be happy if I don't get wiped out within the first 10turns.

Wow this thread was buried a fair bit.

I've been battering Rome a lot recently, and I just can't help but thinking that the Greek Cities are massively over-powered. Open battles are pretty balanced, but if you're defending a city you can actually "pull a 300" all the time. Two groups of hoplites can hold pretty much anything off. I've only lost two cities so far and that was the result of my men not holding their ground even when set to guard and allowing a gap in my line. For the third turn in a row I've used 600 men to fend off 3000 Romans. In the last battle, I lost 25 men :P

10 Armored Hoplites and a General is all I used when playing as the Greek cities, I conquered Egypt and Europe save for Rome by the end.

I've been slogging it for ages now, I've taken Rome and the south of Italy, Julii still hold on to North Western Italy and one region in the NE (the one below Pavatium). I've been at peace with Thrace but I might change that, and I've been at war with Pontus since the dawn of time, but can never push my way away from Sardis. I'm not very good to be honest :P

Good to hear you're enjoying the game and sticking at it. Huge fan of RTW here, and playing as the Greek Cities was a lot of fun. As you work your way through the building tree and upgrade your barracks at Sparta, you will eventually be able to recruit Spartan hoplites which dominate all. Their only contest in the game was the Germanian Berserkers before they got nerfed back in the days of patch v1.3 IIRC. They're still good fun though!

You can recruit them at Syracuse aswell. I remember as the Brutii I had conquered Sicily (apart from Messana) before the Scipii, and when it reached Huge City status, it must have been netting around 10,000 (possibly more) denarii a turn. I had more money than I knew what to do with.

Cool, I never knew that! I think that when I played as the Greek Cities, the Scipii drove me out of Sicily. I kept requesting help from the Carthaginians but they were having none of it. They just sat there in Lilybaeum, their settlement on the west coast, overflowing with light infantry and cavalry.

I've just been playing through Napoleon recently which isn't bad. Mainly for the naval warfare.

Yeah, it is hard to keep hold of it at the start. But, as the Greeks, through clever ( :P ) diplomacy (and easy difficulty :( ) I managed to keep the Scipii at bay until I was strong enough to hold them off.

And it was from there many turns later I launched my failed invasion of Italy.

Well you did very well to hold them off at the start! I found taking Sicily was much easier playing as the Carthaginians. How come your invasion failed, did you rush it early on? I know that as soon as you're able to recruit a few Spartans, your armies are virtually invincible.

And which TW are you playing now?

I didn't have generals in my armies, and they mostly composed of lowly units, like just normal hoplites and militia ones. The city itself seems to generate alot of trade income later on.

I am currently playing Shogun 2 and have become Shogun as the Chosokabe, but I have yet to capture 25 provinces.

Ah, good to know.

Awesome. I haven't bought Shogun 2 yet, but I've played the demo and liked it a lot! Looks like they've finally made a giant leap with the AI. Just finishing off Napoleon, then I'm going to run out and grab it!

Yeah it is a great game, I find it alot harder than the other Total Wars myself though, especially up to the realm divide point. I installed the mod after realm divide happened, so it didn't take effect.

That sounds great! I've never found the difficulty levels in Total War games to vary much. Looking forward to it! :)
