I'm not to sure if a topic already exists (I had a look around and I couldnt find one), or if it's even allowed.

Anyway, here is a thread for all us Total War buffs, to discuss all things Total War. You could discuss past games, future games, so here you go! Let the dicussing begin!

Total War has the worst online community I have ever seen.

Every few months I'll play Total War constantly for a couple of weeks but I always get burnt out once I get sick of having to face like 3 battles at the end of every turn, especially in Rome Total War which was by far the worst in this. In RTW in late game, I found myself having to fight like 5 siege battles at the end of a turn and I hate siege battles. I don't auto resolve because it svcks and often gets unfair results (Especially if the enemy has chariots in RTW) and I always feel like the game hates me for using it anyway.

What's your favourite game in the series and why?

I havent played all of them, but my personal favourite would have to be Terrible AI: Total War Empire: Total War. All the glitches and the abysmal AI aside, I think it was the most innovative of the ones I have plaed, it had the most potential to be excellent. It brought naval battles (which I hated, but it pretty much guarantees that naval battles will be in all future Total War games), and I liked the gunpowder. I personally don't play online, because I am not an online person, for any game. Really looking forward to Shogun 2, and I would really like to see an East Asia or China: Total War after Shogun 2. What was your favourite?

Have you played Napoleon? Same sort of thing as Empire but much better optimized. I get like 20 fps on Empire with everything on low and pretty much constant 50-60 on NTW with graphics on medium. Also has slightly fewer units which is great because in Empire I found that there were lots of units that had a stat difference of like 1 or 2. Lots of units with little difference between them. It's the same in NTW but to a slightly lesser extent I think.

I hated the naval battles too. WAAAAY too slow and boring for me.

I'm hoping that after Shogun 2 they make a Rome 2. China Total War sounds cool though.

As for my favourite it's either Rome or Napoleon. Rome has terrible AI that charges cavalry straight into spearmen and in late game turns into a siegefest but Napoleon I find that if I just get more cannons than my enemy and position them in the line with my infantry, then I can just destroy anything that comes near with the cluster shot (Think that's what it's called)

I'm leaning slightly more towards Napoleon.

I have the Napoleon demo, but I am playing it on ultra low (I only have a 9300 GS Graphics Card), so I am going to wait until Christmas to get my new parts (GTX 460 BABY!!) and then buy it. Empire I played on my uncle's PC, so I think I should wait until I upgrade and then buy that. I don't think I would like the way the Napoleon campaigns are seperated into smaller ones, but I could live with it.

I see what you mean about the stat difference. It was pretty pointless having special units like the Prussian Jaegers and the Ferguson Riflemen, because they were pretty much the same as all other skirmish units.

Napoleon does have a grand campaign mode like the other Total War games, in Napoleon it's called campaigns of the coalition. Only has 4 factions (4 or 5) to play as though.

Not that I hate Rome (it's my second favourite), it's just that Rome has already covered everything there is to Rome. If they had to do another European setting, I would rather i be pre-Roman times.

I guess none of you have ever played http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval:_Total_War - Gold Edition (Viking Invasion expansion) before.

Anyway, I still loved the game series, but I doesn't like the automatic sea battles very much because the outcome was to random imo.
When I heard about the player controlled sea battles that was introduced in the Empire Total War and I was very excited about it, so I buy it shortly after the release and I was satisfy with game except for those early patches which screw a few things up in the game. Since then I hadn't experienced any difficulties with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire:_Total_War.

The only game I didn't have is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rome:_Total_War:_Alexander and I'm still looking for it. Maybe if I can get my hands of the Total War - Eras.

IMHO, I don't get it why you're opposed to a second version of Rome TW?
I would definitely buy a Rome TW 2 if the game was released, because the first one has many bugs/flaws in that game despite the patches.

So, you want the same game with less bugs? Alot of people over at the TW forums (and I prefer the Bethesda forums) seem to want a WW1 Total War. I personally think that is idiotic.

Edit: I meant I prefer the Bethesda forums and not the TW forums

I love bloody love the Greek factions. Mainly the Seleucid Empire, who can say no to Armoured Elephants anyway? Nice Cohort Rome. oh look, its in the air now. How about that.

WW1 Total War

I kinda want a WWII Total War, like Hearts Of Iron but not as tedious.

Ok, absolutely no Total Wars with a world war in it. Campaign could be good but what about the battles?
World War 1, to large scale and took weeks, World War 2, the battles are squad based and mobilised warfare and planes and stuff.
I also like the Greek factions, I wouldn't mind a Greece: Total War, with all the warring city states and maybe a Persian invasion DLC?

Yes, I do want RTW2 perhaps with the Empire TW game engine a least for the manual sea battles there is in Empire.

What forum do you mean, because I know there is two known forums out there.

1 - Is it the http://forums.totalwar.com/forum.php?
2 - Or the http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php?

If you want WWII Total War you can always mod an existing game perhaps Napoleon.

I meant the official one.
The thing with Rome 2 is, you could update and make the game better, or you could have a totally new game, with all new features and units and wars. Updating Rome would not bring that, you would just have Rome: Total War, less bugs, better graphics and possibly naval battles (which would involve boarding and ramming and be even more slow-paced than the Empire naval battles).

Oh, that one.
This is my fault, because I forgot to mentioned the new or the old official forums and I assume that you meant the 'unofficial' forum.

I think the Empire engine is much better suited for sea battles, because I don't think that's possible with the RTW game engine.
But how knows maybe there is a chance to have sea battles with Rome engine after all. I'm skeptical to that though.

Do you really want to mess around with the beautiful game that is Rome: Total War? Messing with beauty can ruin it, it's like having a beautiful girl and then trying to make her look prettier with make-up, which can make her look ugly. The same with Rome: Total War. I would much rather they explored different areas. Besides, they said they have Rome 2 on the list, but not an immediate thing.

I think there is misunderstanding here, because I don't want to mess things up and certainly don't with the gaming beauty of Rome Total War. No that way would definitely ruined the entire game aspect and I doesn't want that at all if you ask me.

When you mention to explore new areas I agree with you, because I believe it would be a great feature if the player could play more closely to the game map perhaps more localized map in a point of view. Like you do in Morrowind or Oblivion if you know what I mean by more localized geographical maps.

Until CA decide to create Rome TW 2 I think the community will try to improved it a little, but not to have it unstable.

Sorry, I didn't mean it that way, I meant you might want it improved, but if things get muddled with, the game can potentially get ruined.

I play Rome and Medieval 2 takes me forever and I struggle on medium but I have fun with it. I also play the expansions for both though I am convinced the Barbarian Invasion one is impossible, and anyone with Medieval 2 needs to check out the Third Age mod. It is Lord of the Rings themed but very fun.

I have Rome + Alexander, Medieval 2 + Kingdoms and Empire.

I prefer Medieval 2. I like the assassination movies and prefer the diversity between the factions units, something I thought Empire didn't have enough of. Whatever country you choose it always felt the same in Empire except for 1 or 2 units.
Rome is okay, but I prefer the better graphics of M2 and how it feels so much bigger than Rome.

Hey, don't be so hard on your self.

You know I've actually improve the game for my self, but never release those improvements as a mod.
