Totally, separate, pauldrons.

(Disclaimer) - I searched pauldron topics on the site, looked through comments... unless I seriously missed something... (which could be possible, knowing myself)... I don't believe anyone has totally confirmed this until now. And I'm 99.9% positive it can be now.

SO! The latest issue of Playstation Magazine had bunch of goodies and exclusives... such as new screens. Now, I don't get the magazine and have only read descriptions... so I just now looked up scans being really curious. (Sorry I can't say where or link to them, period!)... but, one of the screens of a dread-haired Nord wielding a two handed hammer and attacking the character in some castle/ruin looking place, with tables and candlesticks behind him, is wearing the exact same armor as this guy http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/3927/baldguy.jpg except his left pauldron is a beastly thing with mini-horns on it. Almost looks like some animal skull. His right pauldron, however, is exactly the same as the before mentioned bald guy.

So... yeah! If this has already been stated then I apologize. If not, I'm sure some of you who care to Google the obvious wording necessary to find these scans will back me up, and especially anyone who has the actual issue of the mag. :) Either way, I'm a happy dude.

Well, it's definitely the best example I've seen to base the theory off of. ;) So yeah.

Tis a shame, that, though... more people need to know, especially after the whole armorcomesinsingleoutfits thing, ahaha

This doesn't mean it's confirmed.
For all you know, those are just different variants of the same armour.

Although it seems likely to be separate pauldrons.

Sorry to be a downer, I just hate it when the word confirmed is tossed around.
And yes I'm aware you never stated it was confirmed, but I'm just attempting to stop the train wreck before it begins.

Sup Debbie Downer, how you doin'?
This pretty much does confirm it. You think there are just dozens of variants for each type of armor? Give me a break. Separate pauldrons are in, says I.
And we shall rejoiceth forever.

I agree. I highly doubt Bethesda is going to show us several different variations of the same armor, where the pauldron is pretty much the only thing thats different, just to screw with us.

I'm in on the celebration :celebration:

I understand where you're coming from amigo, and we'll probably reach 100% positivity in just a few days during E3, but for now... this is exciting me. ;) With back-up from this >>> ''One of the hallmarks of our games is an abundance of loot. We have thousands of different weapons and pieces of armor, not to mention potions, scrolls, alchemy ingredients, jewelry, gems, etc." >>> http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-8567-The-Elder-Scrolls--Skyrim-Q-A-With-Lead-Designer--Bruce-Nesmith.html

Even though that too could also be challenged as, say, a simple over-statement... still gives me something to cling to, ahaha.

Just because I want to add something, I saw other armors there too with little to no sleevage (Sleeves)

I wonder if the Nords really run around sleeveless all the time or if there's meant to be clothing under there?

Two things that I would like to note as well from the same screenshot:
  • Hell yea, it seems that finally two handed hammer won't get a severe case of hydrocephalus any more. Looking sweet! (the scan itself was rather dark though, so maybe I got it wrong here)
  • The pauldron eerily reminds me of Morrowind's Trollbone armor style to me. Doubly sweet then, if it is! edit: but looking at a larger (and brighter) shot of it, it seems like it is actually some sort of an iron pauldron with an animal pelt (with its horns) on top. Hmm...

Ok I noticed too and got pretty excited... however I also noticed that in the same article they said that the armor and clothes were all one piece a la Fallout 3. But if I remember right didn't a Beth Dev say on twitter or something that there were for sure helmet, chest, legs, boots and gloves slots like in Oblivion with a possibility of more? So I'm honestly completely unsure of what is really going to be the case.

Good riddance to the one-pauldron system that Oblivion had. I liked how it was done for Morrowind, and hopefully it'll be this way in Skyrim for sure.

I missed that about TES. I loved separate pauldrons and armor pieces. Adds to customization and creativity.

Hmm, hold on. The metal under the fur looks the same as in the other screen, didn't they say armor was customizable awhile back? Maybe putting pelts on your pauldrons is part of that.

I loves me some armor customization. If they're not separate pauldrons then they have done a good job with armor variations at least.

It does look very likely now. If so, it completes a really exciting little flurry of new information.

Either way, that bone pauldron is awesome-lookin'. And the Playstation magazine screens are awesome in general; I'd love to see those at full size & quality.

Wuaw... it's 100% the same armor and 100% a different pauldron... AWESOME.. it would seem taht some chest armor come with small shoulder pads and then pauldrons are applied over those... :) great system imo

How is it that we have one thread about how pauldrons are separate judging from screens in the magazine, and one thread about how armour is now all one suit? I wouldn't count on anything until its actually properly confirmed...

Perhaps no one is right. Maybe you only get to wear a single suit of armor, but you get to customize said suit...

Because anyone can make any topic at any time? so wha? Fact is that this thread has pretty convincing evidence in screenshots where as that one other just rerefences that quote that may well be missunderstood.

@Proditus That would be sort of stupid, considering what you are wearing is technically just one suit of armor once its on your body... It would be like equipping it before equipping it.
