That's where I found it. No idea how the poster acquired the image. Any thoughts?

...Its a fan forum, not a trustworthy source by any means.

Hmmm okay. Anyone know where to find the thread that debunked it?

well, one thing, they said that the screen cap was 'released', and I can assure you that, if it was real, it would not be intentional
second, that post was in early '09, and I doubt they could have produced a screen shot like that at that point in the process

The only way that could be real is if they used the megatexture tech from the Rage engine, there are no repeating textures in that shot.

sorry I'm flaking out on this source
I swear to god there was a thread full of concrete evidence and convincing arguments that it's fake
but, also, keep in mind that skyrim and oblivion will be running on the same machine, so skyrim's graphics can't simply be upgraded, they can only be optimized. You won't see any drastic difference between the games, like that picture would lead on.
As well as the fact that even the NAME of the game was kept secret until the VGAs. A leaked screenshot would be pretty astounding considering we weren't even sure what it was called.

Hmmm okay. Anyone know where to find the thread that debunked it?

We ripped this apart in the some of the earliest speculation threads (before the mods took them over). Dig deep there and you'll find it. As I remember, we determined that it was the product of a popular landscape rendering program (can't remember the name of it). I hope that helps!

Hmm... seems like this one was missed. I guess nobody noticed it was the Skyrim concept art used as the background at the VGA's.

Not only do I think Skyrim will look like http://usspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Skyrim.jpg, in fact I know it!!

You, sir. Might be wrong, as far as we know the Empire fell and some borders were moved, so Skyrim could be bigger or smaller ... (I'm going for bigger)
But thats another thread.

Is that Crater Lake? It looks like it, with the island and everything. No photo can capture the beautiful color of the water there and give it justice.

As you can see, Bethesda's Facegen technology has noticeably improved. :hubbahubba:

The main problem with Crysis's 'Winter' assets is that it is a tropical-environment in a winterised atmosphere. So all the trees/shrubs/ground formations/rocks are slightly wrong. But some of the other effects there are great.

Uh..there is a reason for that. It wasn't a mistake by the devs, it is part of the main storyline. The textures is what you should be looking at and the ice/snow textures are fantastic looking.

And nice one as well, although we want more realism ;)
(sometimes realism is not good enough for a game !)

on topic - i agree with the people that say skyrim wont blow people away like oblivion did, because when you think about it, the game has to be designed to play on a five year old pc :(
i really hope it does support graphic options for those of us with high spec pc's though.

No, it doesn't...that's a ridicules claim. People were saying that about morrowind and oblivion, and oblivion blew a hole in the world of gaming. It'll match pc's maybe a year or two back. Bethesda is a next gen studio. They build the engine to last five years into the future so all their game will look amazing, then when the time is right they release Elder Scrolls flaunting their next engine around.
