Tough enemies

What are your ways of taking down enemies such as the Albino Scorpion, Super Mutant Overlord, Deathclaw etc?

I have a few different approaches:

Unarmed/Stealth Approach:
-I just get in close, use the Steel Knuckles to get a paralyzing palm and beat down the enemy with a Deathclaw Gauntlet.
-If I can't get in close, I will lay down a Bottlecap Mine, Plasma Mine and then fire with the Victory Rifle for a headshot, take the perforator and fire as they charge, if they have a ranged attack then I will line of sight to get them to hit the mines.

Grenades and Dogmeat:
-I notice Dogmeat has so much HP becuase he needs to be able to take the damage from the Grenade thrown at the enemy, I will let Dogmeat tank, and throw any type of grenades at the target.

I usually drop a mine or two and take them out from a safe distance with a sniper weapon. If there's an object you can hide behind on the overlords so they can't use their tri-beam lasers on you, that's a plus.

have me and fakes shoot at it with gatling lasers for a couple minutes.

but if you lack the ammo... minefield.

if you lack mines... sneak attacks

if you have a low sneak level... constant shooting and running back (if theres a rock jump on that)

if you run out of ammo... run away.

If the enemy has a gatling laser I try to get in nose to nose as they seem to have problems targetting things at very close range, mirelurks and radscorpions, I tend to use the flamer, and as my character has the pyromaniac perk, they only last a few seconds. Ghouls are not a problem thanks to the ghoul mask. Deathclaws, I use the Dartgun then blast them with the flamer or terrible shotgun a few times. Raiders are mere playthings now.

Two Words Metal Blaster thats all I need, although if its a stupid (Censored) Overlord with Tri Beam Laser Rifle then I'll bring out the Chinese Assault Rifle.

Then you start running into some of the high end enemies use nuke cola grenades, botlecap mines are also nice and cripple their legs, drop one, snipe the enemy and redraw some meters while shooting at the enemy.
Next do point lookout and get the two +5 damage perks, each of your bullets now do +10 damage. Yes an out of VAT sneak attack with a shotgun type weapon do 180 extra damage with it, the +10 also apply to bullets from automatic weapons, everything from 10 mm smg up to vengeance. In VAT the prototype plasma pistol from mothership zeta do extreme damage nice against reavers who jump around attacking companions.

The gauss rifle is useful here because it knocks the tough enemy off it's feet a lot of the time, gives you time for another shot and repeat the process.

Shooting at the opponents weapon is helpful, where they have a weapon. Then they come at you with their fists and it's not such a big deal. You feel kinda sorry for a super mutant master coming at you trying to punch you.

Then there is Fawkes. He's invincible, I swear to God. I once shot him by accident with the gauss rifle and it barely registered as a dent on his HP bar. How tough is he? Can he even be killed or does he just go unconcious? At any rate if you have Fawkes you can just hang back and let him take care of whatever it is. I don't usally bring him along because the game becomes a bit of a spectator sport. AND he has all the best lines.

Otherwise, sneaking saves a whole load of time, stimpaks, ammo and other resources. It pays off to sneak around things, especially when out in the open.

Reverse-pickpocketing works nicely on overlords. Also highly effective on swampfolk! The Gauss Rifle is the best cure for albinos: kill them a long, long way away!

Entomologist + Shotgun

The sneak attack will blast away most of those HPs in a instant.

Burnmaster also makes quick work of these silly things.

Gauss Rifles, Fatmen, and Alien Blasters.. :D

If I don't have one of the above weapons on me, I usually use the Dart Gun to make sure they can't run (very useful on Reavers, Albinos, and Deathclaws) then just plow at em with whatever strong weapon I have. Usually just a Chinese Assault Rifle or something..

A couple two or three shots with my Dart Gun... slows em way, way down. Then I run around em, jumping up and down, yelling nasty names and waving my naughty bits in their face. Then to add insult to injury and take em down with my BB gun.

Heh, heh :)

Plunkett's Valid Points (unique knuckles) or The Shocker (unique power fist that has an electric charge-- "Not a kitchen appliance! Do not use for food preparation!" according to the instruction manual). The Shocker does robots great-- 5 or 6 hard punches in the grill scrags a Sentry Bot after you soften it up with a Pulse Grenade, and the electric lightening all over the dying robot looks and sounds so right.

I usually use 'em without VATS unless my health is low, or I just want to see the cool animations. No Paralyzing Palm, but people here endorse it.

Mix it up between stealth attacks and poking the enemy with a .308 or .44 round to the head... If they go down in one sneak shot, that satisfies my character; if they don't, I jump behind something and wait for them to get real close and beat 'em down. The Tri-beam is tricky, since it can be aimed close-up. :cryvaultboy:

Scorpions, meh. I just jump on rocks and plink at them. In FWE the AI's are smarter so enemies don't just continue to attack like suicidal idiots the way they do in the vanilla game, so scorpions will run for it when they sense you have the rock advantage. Ranged-weapon enemies if they are low on health, they hide behind cover and shoot at you, which is a much more dangerous fight for the PC.

BTW, a Mr Gutsy that's ducking behind cover to wait for a shot at you will retract it's eye-stalks like it's hiding! It's so cute it made me laugh the first time I saw it-- pretending to be a Mr Handy to fool the enemy. :lmao: Brilliant mod.

I kind of like this combination:
A3-21 Plasma Rifle
+ Wired Reflexes
+ Entomologist
+ Commando
+ Finesse
+ Wasteland Guru (snide)
+ Sniper
+ Cyborg
+ Action Boy
+ Grim Reaper Sprint
+ Cross with Burnmaster
+ Fawkes with Gatling Laser

+ Fawkes with Gatling Laser

if you had you have fawkes youll never loose, so if all else fails, get fawkes. he has a gatling laser and bypasses the horrable side effect of it. the side effect is itll burn ammo until your at your last cap. fawkes got unlimited ammo, and he wont share with me

Bottlecap mines are very effective. A critical hit with one of them babies and a well placed shot with a rifle can take even a Deathclaw down.

Get vengeance, do point lookout first so you get the two +5 damage / bullet perks. Repairs is actually a larger headache than ammo, at level 20 you have more loot than you can sell. Mothership zeta solves that problem.
You find that you are far more effective than Fawkes, Vengeance has another fun feature, then using it against lesser creatures like supermutant masters or glowing ones who often follow the overlords and reavers they dies at once then the beam hits them. Same with packs of hellfire troops. A waste to use it on other things even if its very fun.

I dance with Reavers. Back up while slightly turning (basically going in a big circle), and then sharply turn out of their way when they are trying to slap (?) you. If your timing is right, they can't hurt you. Then just get your cheapest weapon and ammo and pop them while they try to attack you in vain. :) It saves ammo (and stimpaks, etc.), but it is still a pain, and it takes a while. Chances are you'll still screw up a couple times during the fight and get hit, but ohh, well.

For the others I just spray and pray. Occasionally I can find a rock where the albino's can't get me, but I usually just have to blast them in the face with a shotgun. I usually end up losing more caps than I gain on them. I don't really like companions, so I go it alone. I used Fawkes for maybe a day, but he kept following me into my house and getting me trapped after sleeping. I got tired of reverting to saved games, lmao.
