Tournaments

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 9:06 pm

Ok....i just came up with this idea looking in the mounts topic.
Sorry if it's been mentioned before.
I ( from a personal view ) would love tournaments to enter in skyrim....similar to area battles.
But also...what about jousting, archery, sword fights etc....i think this would be a great idea.
We could have like arena fights to the death...like in oblivion...but what about casual fights,or skill challenges via tournaments.
Tests of strength, will ,agility, sword skill challenges, archery challenges, horse riding challenges etc.
If done right this could add alot to the role-playing.....it also gives you something extra to do or achieve etc.
Anyway i like the idea....some wont maybe.
What are your views on this...and what could you add to the idea.
Like i said sorry if its been done, but it just popped into my head
Discuss......
Also if the game tracks what you do & your behaviour etc, people would like you or hate you in the tourneys...boooing or cheering you...depending on what you've done in the game world etc.

so extra mini games basically?

support. i wouldn't mind taking a breathier from adventuring or doing quests, and to take part of this. Would be a great addition, along with the jobs.

“Step right up folks! Step right up! Shoot the balloon when a bear! Shoot the balloon win a bear for your lady friend. You Sir! You look like the hero sort, win a bear for you lady friend! Not the marksmen type? Don’t worry, no, never you worry, test your strength my good fellow! Test your strength indeed! Hit the ringer all the way to the bell and win a bear! Ring the bell, win a bear Sir, it is just that easy. Don’t go Sir! …Why I’ll tell you what, hows about, maybe you could just levitate that svcker! Levitate the ringer win a bear. Why of course of coarse, that’s it indeed! Is it not Sir!…Sir?”

Yeah I think it could be cool though.

edit: Im a dork

Also ...we could have a proper prize system,be it gold, items of clothing, armor, weapons things for your house etc....all manner of things.
There could be beast taming challenges, fist fights/brawls ( maybe in pubs too )
Something along the lines of the tournaments in the film a knights tale, but with added games ,challenges that would fit TES.
Like i said, i think this would add alot to the game....also i could lead to random encounters, maybe you beat someone who wanted the prize you won,so then come track you down, either to take from you or offer to buy/trade...or they may want revenge & appear later in the game to get that revenge etc.
Anyway i'm sure some of you could add alot more to this idea :)

I really like this idea as it would add a lot to the game. Tournaments in single combat, precition shooting and so on would be good as long as they keep some variety between the different types.

Much more variety outside dungeons should be present.

Group Hunting Expeditions, Underground Pit-Fighting, Horse Races, Mountain Climbing (Be the first to climb Mt. ?), Treasure Hunts, Archery Tournaments and Fishing Competitions would be great fun once the Dragon Apocalypse has been averted. Seems a bit out of place during it though...

Fishing would be great in TES.....either as a tourney skill or a means of income /survival....i mean we have wood cutting etc now,why not fishing.
Glad you mentioned fishing ...i forgot all about it,good job :)

That would be great! Sort of like an expanded arena.

There was something like this implemented in an indie game, not sure how many people have heard of/played it - Mount & Blade. It was a very basic system, and nothing like the level of detail described here, but I'm sure Skyrim will have the capability to implement something like you've described here.

Also tournaments could differ from city to city.....either difficulty, what prizes etc.
You maybe more popular in one city ,then you would another.
Maybe we could learn more moves or whatever as great prizes...or if we become a tourney champ etc,we get a statue or monument in a town or city somewhere.
Maybe it's too late to implement such an idea now, unless the dev's have thought the same thing.
But this idea could really work in TES in my view.
I mean ( story aside ) for those who love role-playing,you could create your character as tourney fighter, seeker etc,as a way of living in skyrim.
I really hope the dev's have done something like this....i really can't see this being a bad idea...maybe i'm biased.
But anyway....c'mon people in know some of you could add more to this, lets get the ball rolling and maybe....just maybe, the dev's will keep an eye on it :)

I thought this idea would of got more of a response, than it has.
Obviously its not that important to people, but thats fine :).
The amount of ideas that float around on this forum is huge, yeah not all good, but there are lots of good ones.
Maybe i got carried away with the tournament idea at the time......but it seems,it's not that popular.

Always thought that the tes series could do with more mini games, maybe a caravan sort of card game or even just dice as well, some table top bar games would be nice.

It would be very cool with some tournaments, I also think it would fit the atmosphere very well.

If it's not included, it could make for a great mod.

I'm one of the people who has no aversion to mini-games in TES so I'm in favour of the idea.

I'd like it if it only happened on certain days of the month, give the calander alot more meaning.
Also betting on events.
Maybe even full blown celebrations that incorporated tournaments among many other things.

Wouldn`t mind some Tournament mini-games to help relax from adventuring.

That jousting type mini game from the old "Defender of the Crown" game, was quite neat.

A tournament in the 'chivalric' style doesn't really fit in Skyrim, that's more an Imperial or Breton thing ;) however, things like fist fighting, one on one combat and drinking games would all work well, also races up mountains or to find a hidden object. I would also guess there's been enough bored Nords that all the mountains have been climbed at least once before ;)

Seems like a good idea and a good way to gain some reputation in the Skyrim world.

You might wanna add "Hurl the Axe at something" competitions.

I like the idea of the fist fights. Maybe a fight club style activity with prizes and status.

The jousting and other stuff is kinda meh for me.

I'm pretty sure we can count on some variation of arena fighting. I just hope it's better than OB.
