Towers and Stones

Post » Sun Jul 11, 2010 8:50 am

There is one thing I don't get: what are the stones, and what is their relation to the towers, are they some kinda power sources for the towers? do they work like motors to keep the towers standing? and what is the relation of the towers crafted by mortals to the tower, the 'I' described in vehk's teachings, the wheel sideways? do the builders believe they could reach the tower by making replicas of the adamantine? I mean, you don't need a thing such as the heart of lorkhan to achieve CHIM, do you? "just" realising you are nothing and therefore everything, and still say 'I' should be enough.

Good old Hasphat Antabolis and Divath Fyr. It will truly be a shame if they passed away during the Red Year.

Perhaps Greg Keyes would like to kill them off too? Just to rub it in?

Both being amazing wizards, wouldn't they have marks in other places?

I would imagine so, yes, although I find your labeling of Drillmaster Antabolis as a wizard odd. He is certainly a very intelligent and resourceful scholar, and may carry a few Mark and Recall amulets or scrolls however.

He'll probably hide inside his Dwemer Puzzle Cube and chill with the cenobites for a bit while the dust settles.

I'm not sure of any definite proof, but it has been speculated several times that Dagon's towers play some role in getting through the liminal barrier. Especially seeing as how removing their stones shuts them down, thus closing the Oblivion gate. Though beyond the fact that they both influence the barrier, one holding it and the other tearing it, I don't see any other links. Though I would guess those towers were the echo of the zero tower as well, Dagon and his daedra building them in the same way the elves did, but they constructed them in a way that did the opposite of the Nirn Towers.

It reminds me of Numidium being said to have "dis-creation", though I suppose that only applies to its ability to stomp on things and conquer provinces.

EDIT: Oh, and if you haven't tried already, you can search for more threads on this here, or go on over to the Library and look up the Guardian theory. It explains quite a bit, though the theory itself is not accepted by everyone.

Well, after about ten minutes with the search function:

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=875080&view=findpost&p=12771056

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=848116&hl=Towers

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=841535&hl=Towers

But really, there's not much there that you couldn't get here by asking. If there's anything you don't get, I'm sure we can at least point you in the right direction. I know I'd like to understand the relationship between the Towers and the Tower more (beyond the echo of the wheel, them holding up Mundus, and the I); always good to link your knowledge together ;)

Regarding Divayth Fyr: considering he had that teleport thing to the Crescent-Blade in the bookshelf right next to him, one must think he had the ability to survive ;)

I just wanted to add that if I remember right, the power of the Numidium wasn't just stomping things physically, it was the ability to literally discreate reality; that was its true danger. If I remember correctly, the Numidium can rewrite reality to eliminate entire cities.

Well, that's the first time I've heard that :) Sounds interesting, as well as plausible, but do you have a link to a source? Not because I'm doubting you, but I would like to see the context. Unless it's something in Daggerfall, in which case it's most likely in the UESP. I know the Intercepts mentioned Numidium in a rather ambigious way, saying something like it was just a smaller part of the larger threat to the Empire.

Anyway, I believe there are now two Tower threads, so unless anyone (Mala?) has any more questions here I think it would be proper to move the discussion there. Thanks ;)

Yeah...and a Wizard of his age and experience probably knows the Passwall spell to get out of Magas Volar. :P

I'm going by memory of past lore forum discussions, where I think MK mentioned this; but maybe one of the lore veterans like Nalion, Proweler, or Adanorcil can confirm. It's not a concept I came up with, though it makes sense to me that Numidium would be more than a mecha stomping around. But I agree that you shouldn't accept this as gospel without a specific cite; sorry.

Thanks, jackfrost. I wondered about that, but didn't try to cite it since I haven't played "Daggerfall".

That's obviously not the MK post, though. I searched for you, didn't quite find it, just a neato thread I thought got eaten.
