Town Crier? Newspaper?

Post » Sat Jul 23, 2011 2:24 pm

Would it be cool to have all of our actions announced.? Say you rob a place and the crier/newspaper shows it, It would be awesome. Or say you clear a cave or kill a dragon.? It gets announced. Comment with your thoughts. :)

Welcome to the forums. Have a fishystick.

Sure, it would be cool. But wouldn't it be sort of hard to do so?

We did have the Black Horse Courier in Oblivion but hopefully that it mentions more then just a select few quests.

not a town crier screaming every little thing we do... but a newspaper of some kind yeah.. giving news on more than just the player.

I think it would make the game too player-centric. I mean, the fictional world of Skyrim is supposed to be alive and functioning with thousands of inhabitants. If everything the player does gets broadcasted as news then the world becomes unbelievable. (in my opinion)

When I play an RPG I prefer to think of my character as someone living in the world, not someone the world revolves around. I think Oblivion did a pretty good job of making some of your actions noteworthy.

Yeah. I see your point. But not as much JUST the player in my idea. Like say Newpaper showing everyday things. Or people talking like,." Oh wasn't he the guy to slay the dragon on Mount Skyrim, Something just to show that people KNOW whats going on. For as i could Throw fireballs at Guards while people stand and talk about Someone's prices being Low.

I agree that Oblivion had the better balance of making some of your actions noteworthy without over doing it. I wouldn't mind seeing a newspaper article talking about my latest "hit". Just as long as it doesn't IMPLICATE me in the process. -tosses bloody dagger in the gutter behind him-

Would be an okay idea if it wasn't all about the main PC but instead about other people as well who have done something inspirational or illegal.

I just talk to myself in the 3rd person.

Dovakiin awoke from his hour long nap with a feeing of power and a heightened level of experience.

Bored of questing, The Dragonborn wander due south of his humble abode and happened upon a cave inhabited by bandits.

Dovakiin entered the cave and proceeded to Tear The Bandits a New [censored]

etc...

This is something Red Dead Redemption did very well, actually. I mean newspapers, not town criers.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if newspapers in Skyrim are greatly expanded.

In principle I like the idea, albeit newspapers require printing presses - not keen on that

Town crier though maybe

TO some extent they do have this with people murmering about what's happened

Yeah they do in Oblivion, BUT they dont as in RECENT, At all. For ex. I was walking around Imperial for about the second time as a Arch-Mage and a Fighters Guild Master, and i heard about the Anvil Chapel Attack. -.-
Just to keep things recent would be an idea.

I agree, it seems like a cool idea, and no it wouldn't be too hard as other games have done similar things before. :)

They do need to expand on the newspapers in Skyrim. I also liked the way Red Dead Redemption did theirs.

A town crier would be good as well.

Hmm or maybe also people simply chatting about things in the world. Similar to fallout's Three Dog :P how they talked about how major stuff happened and even threw in a few things you did
