My town/settlement

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 10:23 pm

Well, I have been an active fallout player since I first started playing fallout. But I always felt like I have been pushed around and my actions are in vain. So I have tought about this thing for a while. I think it would be nice to have your own town or settlement that you could manage. Well, here is just an example of what I have been thinking about. You have for example 5 open slots to build any building of a free choice. You could build from things like a bar, general store, embassy etc.. I really always wanted to have a place I could call "my place". Your actions would work as reputation to the villagers and you could manage allianes with different factions and settlements. I′ve always felt that I never could call the places I stay at "home". I am happy for feedback and further suggestions. :tops:

It doesnt really seem fallout-y to me. Fallout is kinda like a western in some regards, the mysterious stranger that appears at the time of need/change and then disappears into the sunset... Not really a mayor type.

But its definately an interesting concept.

God no.
If I want to build buildings and manage production and economy I'd buy Sim City or Civilization or something like that.
Fallout does not need to have a cozy little town of your own to get away to.
It's about a mysterious stranger (The PC) wandering the wastes in search of answers to his quest and on the way help or mess crap up for people.
I don't even think we should have had the Lucky 38, the Tenpenny Suit or the Megaton House at all.
But that's just my opinion of it.

I just don't think that it fits in with Fallout nor that it serves any purpose.
Better that they spend their time on other mechanics that do fit Fallout instead of giving us a halfassed pointless minigame gimped to hell ripoff of Sims City.

Not really, now if you had the choice to take over as the sheriff of a town like Megaton and there were quests to go along with it where you have to do things to protect the town, that might be pretty cool.

Um how does it not fit with fallout?

And i would love it sounds like a great idea. I also pondered about this in RDR to.

Why are you twisting the things I say? I never talked about a city and if you don′t like the houses were given just don′t use them. I talked about 5 small buildings which you are given the options to manage a little bit as you want. Haven′t you walked trough freeside thinking that some of your caps could be used to improve the lifes of the people that live there?

I'm actually for this idea, I'm a bit tired of being this outside force that just disappears. It doesn't have to be anything fantastic you know just a little settlement that you can start up. I'm stressing the "can" because you don't have to.

I think they should have a DLC you can get for consoles and computer like the geck but easier to use and tells you how to use it for people like me. :hubbahubba:

I second that. But that would totally diminish the value of buying games like this for PC.

During the day I have to manage a bunch of folks, and in Fallout I much rather shoot them.

Yes, exactly. Something like a Vault. You have around 40 people and you have things like a medical centre, an armory and school. Just a little town that you can control as you want. I have seen many posts about people complaining that they have to much money etc etc.. So if you could use your money to build up a town and choose what you want to have there. Many have stated they had problems finding medics that have enough stimpaks, so then you can tell your medic(if you choose to have one) that he should focus on making/getting stimpaks. You could add trade routes to your town(to take an example from F3, you had different mercahants that focused on different items. Like crow and the rest who used Canterburry commons as HQ).

I never said that this have to be implemented in the game, I never said that this isn′t optional. Many people who have played AC:B would have an idea of what im thinking about. At least did I find it nice to set up a shop if I needed one in my area.

So you're talking about investing in shops for them to improve?

Yes, for the most. You choose what builidings you want(Buildings like the size of the one ones in Goodsprings). After you have chosen what buildings you want in the town, you choose what you want them to focus on. If you want to further work on the town that could be optional.

How would this work with characters, quests and ending sliders?

The name could be pre-chosen, and if you preferred you know casinos and bars then it would be crime ridden. Depending on your karma it could flourish because people respected you or it could be in trouble because people feared you. Something like "Your dedication to improving trade and opening new route turned the town into a thriving center of trade, but other trade companies are now against the town." or something...

I like this idea included with the ability to own your own Vault. That would be freaking epic... On your adventure there would be updates like attacks on the vault or issues you need to settle. Like only a few but there would be some.

I'd gladly start building a fortress city near a lake with access to herd animals. Leave a lasting legacy in the wastes.

Arf!

I suggested on the Speculation thread that it would be nice to be able to acquire a shop through a quest from which the player could sell surplice stuff and would become a small hub around which NCPs would act. But manage it on a day to day basis? No.

Oh, I don't want to manage it. I want to appoint someone to do that. I just want to be founder, and to give suggestions to the mayor. Like 'I think it should have a wall' or 'No, that town svcks, don't trade with them'.

I wouldn't mind being able to do something like RTS on the consoles, in fact I think it would be a lot more fun with it!!

That's how the developers want you to play. I rarely play to the character design wanted by the developers. Like in Fallout 3, I never cared about finding James, I only wanted to join the Brotherhood. When I get Fallout 3 on PC and started again, I instantly gave myself power armour and some weapons, just so I could RP always being in the Brotherhood.

With New Vegas, I never played as a courier. All the characters I have are part of a faction, except for two. The first thing I do is try and get the armour of whatever faction I want them in as soon as possible, and roleplay it as I was always with them.

And I've always wanted a situation where I could roleplay as a Town Guard, but the closest thing is that one shootout in Goodsprings. I love this idea. I think it be a great feature, as long as building buildings wasn't instant and took a few in-game weeks.

I like the idea at it's core. Making towns less useless after you've finished talking to all the important people in them is a great idea. Would give the game more replay value and allow you to keep working on something after the main game is finished.

Just had another thought. You can only have one town per character.
