A town that YOU build

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:05 am

In skyrim i think there should be a settlement that involves you going out and building a colony. In Bloodmoon they did this with Raven Rock, but it wasn't very customizable and it was a rather boring village. If they did this in skyrim there would be certain stipulations

-more customizable town planning. You can sanction sections of land in town for commercial (stores) and residential.

-in order for your town to prosper you must have means to acquire food and water. digging a well or having the village by a body of fresh water solves the water problem. sanctioning some land for agriculture and ranching could solve the food problem.

-trade will play a big part. If your city doesn't have enough food, but has an excess of lumber, then you can make an import/export deal with nearby towns or cities that might need lumber, but have an excess of food). When the town becomes big enough, merchants will like to set up shop. They can either buy land and make a building, buy or rent an existing building, or buy a license to set up shop in the streets

-things like taxes or stimulus payments may have major realistic effects on you towns economy

- obviously you must hire guards to keep the peace.

- certain illegal organizations may attempt to make deals with you for considerable profit at the expense of safety.

- organized crime syndicates may ask you to pay "insurance". of course if you refuse, there will be consequenses.

- the town should eventually be able to get city walls to keep unwanted visitors out.

any more ideas or any thoughts on some of the ones i listed?

Maybe you could do this when you become the leader of a guild, the members could be your guard or something

Also, I would think you should only be able to do this once you are filthy rich and have enough resources to support this.

I like the idea, I don't think it will be implemented though.

Oh. I'm the first voter.
Yeah.

OK, so I voted "no" for the whole thing. Trying to make a city from a Firstperson-RPG view/gamestyle is just too weird. Seriously, how are you going to place buildings? Manage books? Staff? Plant tress/shrub, etc?

I'm sorry, but it's not the right game for this.

I want them to include it part because it would be awsome and part because I felt shafted in Oblivion that we could not reconstruct Kavach.

Edit: I don't mean to the extent the poster above me seems to think it would be implemented, but maybe just pour money into it and eventually it upgrades itself with better and more stores etc. Much like some rpgs do it (like tales of symphonia did it, where you had no control over what or where things were built, you just funded it.)

I'm really not big on this idea for an Elder Scrolls game.

I really like fable's real estate system, even though it is simple.

Skyrim would have something similar, though I would prefer it not to be just numbers on my screen.

I can only see this happening in an Assassin's Creed 2 kinda way, where you pretty much just dump money into a town which gets progressively less crappy on its own.

yes to the "Raven Rock" esque quest of building a settlement. However, there should be no governing of it.

Sure people use the "Go play teh simz l0zor" arguement, but fact of the matter is, Raven Rock was awesome to 99% of fans. However, there should be no "governing" of this said colony, or else it WOULD become like the sims/city. Sure, go help build a colony, maybe choose a leader for it, but no governing of it.

Hope this gets implemented :3

I was thinking something similar to what Falco did in Raven rock, or what the USA did in real life.

In history:

Great Britain send over some people to live in the dangerous, uncivilized America. dispite the hardships, the british colonies in america prosper. eventually america creates a pretty self-sufficiant economy, and the king of Britain is kinda being an [censored], so America becomes independant.

so in elder scrolls:

a king somewhere owns some land somewhere and he hires you and a few others to build a colony. your colony eventually prospers but the king is keeping you all down. You either have the choice to keep being a lackey for the king or become a hero for your people's freedom.

Maybe it's construction is offered through conversations with an architect/builder? As in, we'll have this building, this one, this one, and this one. yes Id like to upgrade the sewers and city walls. A brothel? Marvellous idea. Thieves? cool. Paintings! Yeah, spruce up the town, actually let's renevate that old landmark there - A-A-A-ASSASSINS CREED 2!

jk, but its definately an interesting idea. sure if it was implemented properly it would be cool. And yeh, totally gutted bout not being able to rebuild Kvatch. Grrrr.

If they did it right, I'd be game...

Of course, to do it right it'd have to be ESV: Skyrim City Building.

who said anything about managing books, or plants....? placing building would be tough, but i was thinking kinda like how you placed your house in raven rock. Staff would mostly be part of the questline i was thinking, other than the guards who you can just hire as it's been done before.

Perhaps you have a steward who deals with the town (by collecting taxes and paying for services) while you are alway (best if there are several stewards you can chose from; building a town must come during a questline.)

He tells you that the land is split into four districts by people who are smart. YOu chose which districts are commercial, which are residential, etc.

You chose tax rates for buisness, homes, incomes, etc. in coversation with your steward.

You build certain indicdual building (like raven rock's Smith or General Store thing.)

your Steward comes to you and says, "a shady man dropped a letter for you." you can exept the bribe and set up a theives guild hall or not. Simple, fun, unhampering to your adventuring. Basically like a player house on a larger scale.

Yes and I would be the Mr. Rogers of town mayors. "It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood" :celebration:

I did like the construction of Raven Rock and the East Empire Company quests. I always choose to side with Falco due to a more peaceful and better outcome. So you have Raven Rock developing throughout days/weeks and the supplied quests in between which were fun and held my interest. OP's suggestion is an interesting one, but I'd be content with what Bloodmoon did. Have the mining colony grow per day and quests in between. Bloodmoon kept city building minimal and simple. When the colony and quests were completed, I did like having my own manor being built there as a home.

Something i hated about morrowind was when you got your great house residence it eventually got upgraded to a small community, but there was absolutely nothing to do in the community. I wish i would of seen the guards actually protect my house for once instead of just standing around.

Yeah whatever... I'm sure most people on this forum don't get as sick of these posts, but us console players groan every time we read one, i guarantee it.

EDIT: of course you were just stating a fact though, not saying things like "it doesn't matter if it's implemented cause mods will make it so."

This is a good idea I think. One of the games that I enjoyed albeit it was rather juvenile was Final Fantasy My Life as a King. Now Ill admit they did a fairly good job with it, but I think they could have done better. Personally, and I KNOW this wont happen, but amid all the questing and main story and such, I'd like to see a cross between My Life as a King and maybe Anno 1404 and something like Zeus Master of Olympus. That would be very complex, and that why it wont happen, but ruling a city like that, and being able to trade with neighboring towns in the province of Skyrim would be pretty dang epic.

if they do it like you suggest, then no.
if they do it like assassin's creed, then no.
if they do it like fable 3, then please, no.
I can't think of any other way they could do it, so, overall, doesn't sound like a good idea
