Level 2 is pretty weak to try to fight all those Golden Geckos.

I would recommend moving on to The Den, doing some jobs there and comming back when you have some better armour and have levelled a little.

If you have a good unarmed combat skill and 10 agil you can do it at level one. Just one aimed punch to the head and then run away with the rest of your APs.

Otherwise its still not quite that hard, I like to do it ASAP for the gecko skinning perk you get. The trick is going in and killing as FEW geckos as you can, you want to go back and skin them later.

Smiley won't do much damage but is armored and will take a LOT of damage compared to you, I tend to let him soak it up and I go for criticals.

If you are not playing some sort of critical hit build, then I would wait until I had leather armor. Also make sure you bring rubber boots.

Do the trapper town rat quest first. If you've patched up you might find a 10mm pistol down there...

This quest also becomes a hell of alot easier with some companions. Sulik is available in Klamath for a fairly cheap price and he is one of the best companions in the game.

I would suggest leveling up to 3 or 4 to get a perk first, though. That quest is tough, but there is a reason for it... Gecko skinning is a great perk, and
Spoiler
in the back there is a pre-war weapons cache filled with all sorts of good stuff, although I think you need an electric lockpick to get to it

Edit: Ahh, I see that you have Sulik already. Throwing a SMG on him might help, or a powerful melee weapon.
