Trading Items

Post » Mon Mar 28, 2011 11:00 am

So you can sell and buy items at Merchants but what about Trading Items with another Item that a Merchant got ? Should we be able to do that ?
The Merchant must also React to Trade if it's a Bad Trade he saying something Negative like Nooooooo I won't Trade that thing with that thing or Bad Trade or something else negative .if it's a Good Trade he is saying Something Positive Like Yeah Deal Accepted or Good Trade or Something else positive

Sure, why not?

All it would do is be based on the item's value. Aside from being animated and depicted as a direct trade, it'd be the same transaction I made thousands of times in Oblivion- total value of what I'm turning in compared to total value of what I walk out with.

Umm... I'm having trouble understanding. You want a settled, civilized people with a well developed and strongly backed currency system to revert to the barter system any time you want them to? What is the point of this exactly?

I dont think this should be an option for every merchant,

Those that have shops would only trade in coin. But what about smaller stalls or markets that are quiet happy to trade for goods as well as coin

I want to be a merchant and trade items from one section of Skyrim to the other. So yes the trading of goods and negotiating bulk exchange prices/trade.

I want my cart back....

I could see it making sense for pretty much one reason.

If a merchant only has 2k available to barter, yet they sell and item that is 14k, it would be nice to be able to trade an equal or greater item for that. But if the bartering system is improved, which there is reason to believe it has been, then I dont really see a point.

Otherwise Id much rather sell my item, get the cash, and then choose how to spend it.

Right.

Because people totally don't barter these days anymore.

The barter system has already been in. Just sell items to the vendor, and in the same transaction buy items from them so that the amount of gold exchanged approaches zero. Then actually set it to zero. Voila, only items change hands, not gold.

They don't, not in actual stores. I might trade something with a buddy of mine for something else but I'm not going to walk into the grocery store and be like "Hey I need food I'll trade you guys some pants for it!" I just can't see what motivation actual stores in game would have for wanting to do this.

We have always been able to trade items. Don't see why this would change. If the mechanic allows you to sell to the same person you are buying from, money need never change hands.

Because they're merchants. A merchant would see the possibility of turning a quick profit in a pair of high quality pants. Obvious he wouldn't trade a sword for boots and some bread, but maybe some high quality silk cloths. Merchants traded products before the advent of industialized civilization despite having backed currency.
