Is there a way to buy items for a set price in fallout 2 ?
Or do you need to "Barter" with everyone until you can finally buy something.

You have to barter with everyone in Fallout 2. If you have enough coins you can just us that instead of handing over all your items. Higher your barter the lower their price and the more your items are worth.

Some characters have set prices, like T-Ray and the guy in the Den selling the Highwayman. You just agree to their price and it is done. You can barter a better price thow.

I must say it's quite a cumbersome system that you actually have to get tue money and count it out as opposed to just clicking confirm. And the fact the pictures are terrible when text would of been far superior and more efficient.
Barter system in fo1 and 2 is just a gimmick that gets in the way never mind the fact I can never read the value of items because of the colour glitch  I'm annoyed with fallout 2...

You can buy Fallout 2 from GoG.com for about $6. If you svck at installing patches like myself.

Also if you don't like the way it's done in Fallout 2 then you won't like it in Fallout. In Fallout the max you can hand over at a time is 999. So if an item costs 10,000, it can take along time.

Fallout Tactics has a system where you hand over an item and the money it's worth is just given. I like the barter system in Fallout 2. Even thow it can be slow at times.

I thought it was much worse in Fallout. In Fallout you can only give 999 at a time and counting the caps is slow. In Fallout 2 counting the money is alot faster. Just hold it and it flies through it. Tactics does it best. You can just type in the amount. When you sell to the BoS guys in the bunker the money is given for each item.

I agree probably lol I didn't ever have to trade in fo1 I usally just steal/find what I needed.
But in fallout 2 have no supplies and using the barter system is a shambles.
