Trailer vs. Screenshots

Post » Wed Dec 01, 2010 1:21 pm

The trailer reused many of the situations or locations found in the released screenshots. Here are comparisons.

yeah noticed that. They seem to release stuff very systematically. They must have everything they want to release to the public all worked out, slowly revealing little bits as we go. Also because its probably the stuff that was most complete at the time.

I'm not saying it's bad, it's just interesting that Bethesda went through the trouble to recapture these moments.

i would say it was less 'trouble' to recapture those moments than it was to create new ones....

I don't think they recaptured them. I think the screenshots were made from the video.

Actually, I'm not completely sure of this, but I think that the bit from the trailer with the ice wraiths and the screenshot may in fact be the same fight, certainly, the character's equipment is the same, and the location also looks like it might the the same, it may be that the screenshot was created while setting up the situation for the trailer. Also, the cave images might both be in the same cave, as the area the person is standing in might be the place at the end of the tunnel in the trailer, and his equipment could also be the same as in the trailer though the differences in lighting and perspective makes me not completely sure.
Interestingly, in both trailer and the screenshot, the troll is in the exact same pose at the time the image was captured, but obviously in a different location, and the player is using the same sword (Which has blood on it in both images.) and presumably casting the same spell in both images. Whereas some of them may just be coincedences or the screenshots and gameplay footage actually being taken at the same time, that definitely seems like Bethesda went out of their way to capture the same situation at different times.

They probably just captured them at the same time. Recorded some video, changed the whether and took some screen shots, went to a different location and recorded some video, you get the idea.

Yea, Pete tweeted a few weeks back that they have the release schedule already planned leading up to 11.11. There's much more to come. In fact, Pete just tweeted today more info is coming in a "couple weeks."

The screenshots are systematically better. That's why i do not take for granted the popular assumption that both the vid and screenies were shot on a XBOX, and am contemplating the possibility those screenshots just might've been captured on a PC.

The quality contrast is specially boisterous on comparison #3 - Draugrs. The video capture looks dreadful. Those Draugrs seem drawn in the blackest charcoal.
Lighting, plain terrible.

Unless they just filmed it and took the screenshots all at the same time??

This is just a sytem for marketing releases.

You know they say in the first release of screen shots we'll show some armour, and a dragon, then some of the monsters etc.

Then they release a video of the same items/Monsters.

Next will be some more armor/weapons, and a few more enemies, perhaps a little bit on the races for screen shots, then another video showing the afore mentioned things etc etc.

Its an established Marketing ploy. Show a bit then the same bits in a different way, then a bit more, and again in a different way. And helps them keep track of what has been shown in previous snap shots when compiling the next.

Otherwise by the time you get the game, you'll have seen every race, ever bit of armour and weapon, all the enemies and locations. So where is the wow factor when you cross the crest of a hill and see the large dwarven ruin between the trees as you have seen it from every angle in the 8th gameplay video 3 months earlier.

Thanks for the cool thread aye. It's always good to see some useful information. I for one was quietly disappointed with the look of the trailer, and this was alleviated some what by some of the screens. I don't know, the screens just seemed to have better resolution than the trailer........?

Even though everyone raves about "HD" in the tv. world, it's actually pretty low resolution compared to a photograph. The screenshots are definately a higher resolution, even if they are taken from the same HD Xbox source, one is compressed for video output online and the other isn't.

I hope you're not referring to the Draugrs' screen capture, which looks a dark sketchy charcoaly mess.

I still love how the Draugr in the back did that taunt with its axe. That was a nice touch.

If indeed you are taking about the trailer segment , at 1:42, when enemies appear black blotches with no detail, no definition, no nuances, almost like cardboard 2D sprites, them i assume comics regulate your standards.

If you believe that is how bodies should appear under those lighting conditions, if you think that's not only belieable but commedable, them i'm affraid there is no common ground.

English words just bear diferent meanings to us.
