Traits based on six

I feel like people are just trying to be politically correct about this. It does not take a biochemisty course to realize that testosterone is a powerful hormone. It is. Point blank. You can argue that TES is not based off the real world but who are you kidding? Reguard pirates. Nordic warriors. IMPERIALS for God's sake...

Im black and I prefer to play as Redguards. If you look at their stats they are the typical "athletic black guys." Sure I can give him boosts to all his other stats but the fact remains that the whole Redguard persona is pretty stereotypical. I dont mind because Im into sports but Im sure there are other black guys who may not relate as well. Does that mean all the racial attributes should be trashed as well? Food for thought.

Not really - I don't give a crap about equality. A Redguard will always best an Imperial in melee combat, on equal footing. As an Altmer, I enjoy flaunting my magickal prowess in front of lesser races. I'm not interested in equalizing the sixes because giving them buffs/penalties would be "unfair" - I just see no logical way of implementing it. I've seen many a woman who could kick my 6'3", 250 lb. ass. I see no reason why selecting your traits in chargen wouldn't be a desirable option. Hell, I'd vote to do away with racial bonuses, too, if all traits were selectable in chargen. After all, it stands to reason that there are some fatass Redguards/mentally-challenged Altmer, etc.

That is how it is sixist. I have met more than one woman who could kick my ass, and I'm not a frail person myself.

It′s not sixist because as a whole females are weaker, heck I′ve always been the lazy type and one of my friends is a girl that does sports (soccer & hits the gym once a week), and it went from me being weaker than her to me being stronger just because of how we grew up during the puberty stage, since I′m male I gained muscles I didn′t do anything to gain and while she also gained muscles they didn′t grow as much as mine. It′s not fair but that′s just how it is. And then we have numerous studies that show that females have a easier time recognizing facial expressions and this would be implemented in game as a bonus in personality.

Doesn′t mean there are not females that are stronger than male and males that can read faces better than females, they are just an exception and don′t represent the whole of their gender, and that′s where role-play kicks in, want to be the strongest gal in the world ? Well great just work a little bit harder than the male characters need to and you will have 100 str in no time, and want to be the most charming man there is ? Good just spend more time socializing than the average female character needs to and you will have 100 personality soon enough!

It′s not sixist to say the genders are different because they are, it′s just sixist to say that one gender can′t do something the other gender can with a bit of hard work.

There are always exceptions. Thats obvious, but the difference between our wants is whether we want these exceptions to commandeer all the differences for stats

And when I speak of physical combat, Im talking about people of the same size. There are guys who are 5'9 and weigh 155lbs who have dismantled me in practice, but thats because they were talented fighters

As for the attribute customization because of the body customization, how would that work exactly for things like intelligence, luck etc....

Oh, I didn't mean getting a higher strength because you decided to make a burly character.

What I meant was that there should be a Daggerfall style point-buy system for your attributes. I was just using the example of modifying body features because I assumed that people might base their character's appearance off of their stats if this system was in place.

Sadly, since the day that we first dropped out of the trees, women of every culture in the world have been dominated and exploited by men. What does this tell us? Thank god we are entering a more enlightened age and things are changing for the better.

That isn't sixist. sixism is a preference of one six over the other.

You say you know more than one strong woman. Then therefore there must be and equal amount of genius men. But this the dodging the fact that males are stronger than women. You may say its only 10% strong, but 10% is the difference between 100 strength, and 110 strength. I think that sounds reasonable.

I am totally for a gender study in video games, but I do not think it necessary, nor appropriate for it to be in the stats of The Elder Scrolls. Throughout the stories however (plural cause it is TES), sure, why not? it is an important theme, and a big part of people's lives, their gender and maybe it doesn't have to be explored so much in the main story, there are so many side quests that I think the stories told should have a sense of artistic merit like that of films and include such themes, without of course losing the escapist value of video games and specifically TES.

Meh I don't think there should really be differences. It can kinda hurt roleplaying and everyone is different. There should be no need to penalized a character just because of gender.
Also remember that if we don't like it, there is always a contruction set

100% yes, it shouldn't just be +10 in a certain stat based on Gender. Females should have an easier time with Despostion and be quicker while Males could be stronger and a couple other reasons that I can't think of at the moment. Birthsigns based on gender, no keep them netural but Gender based perks on the other hand is a possibility.

I always found it funny that nobody ever complained that it was sixist that the male Saints and Seducers in the Shivering Isles were blatantly inferior to the females. I mean, I am perceptive enough to realize that this is not some neoradical feminist message embedded within the game and just what the developers decided what Sheogorath would want, but I still think it's interesting because I bet you if they did that in reverse they would have an enormous PR problem.

NPCs should treat them different when it makes sense with the lore/story and if there's anything romancy going on, but any stat/trait type bonuses wouldn't really add much. Although I suppose if in the lore females and males are different enough for certain races it wouldn't hurt to include stat differences to represent that.

I think its fine if it affects base stats or whatever like it did in Morrowind (Can't recall if it did in Oblivion or not).

I'm really hoping for a Lady Killer/Black Widow equivalent, seeing as we know perks have been confirmed (Which is awesome I might add).

Real world, there is little difference between men and women in athletics except at the extremes. Sure, ultimate strength/speed would generaly go a male, but for most athletic events, women are not far from parity with men. Intelligence and other factors are not really different between men and women. Women do tend ot think in relationships where men tend to think in a more linear fasion, but that may be more socialization than any inherent quality.

What Bethesda could do is come up with traits that are not necessarily male or female, but maybe something along the lines of a trait that lowers strength but gives better healing or increased agility at a cost of reduced strength. This way the player can apply the traits as they see fit to the character.

take any sport, the top 200 men will always out preform the top 200 women at almost any level. sorry not to be sixist but its biology I am only a college athlete (NCAA Div 2) but i have yet to meet a girl stronger and faster than i am, i know girls who are quicker but not stronger. Men are more athletically inclined naturally more responsive to muscle building due to testosterone and more aggressive. This is across almost all mammals and somewhat true over the rest of the animal kingdom. Note i did not say that woman cant be strong or fast but if you take two people of similar activity levels the man will be faster, more aggressive and stronger. Not a sixist comment its just true.

Females should have a penalty to heavy armor and 2 handed weapons, but with bonuses to acrobatics and maybe sneak.

Sneaky little womenses...

Of course there are some biological differences between the sixes. However, heavy armour and weapon handling are SKILLS, not traits. Make women suffer some slight difference in strength and raise their... birthgiving skills. Or whatever.

Anyhow we're just limiting the gameplay balance for female characters by doing things like this. For roleplaying purposes I would instead recommend better dialouge where NPCs respond differently to you based on your six.

That's just not true, men have equal drawbacks but in different areas.

Women should get an extra sixiness perk. Unless they're orcs, Khajiits or Argonians.

:P Just joking
