transferable character

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:29 am

i think it would be cool if after you beat the main quest. you unlock transferable character where you can bring your character from oblivion to skyrim. i'm not talk about armor, items or weapons, because thats just to much to ask. just your character at the level they are now.

what do you guys think?

Would be cool if you could create multiple characters into one concise Skyrim world.
IE beat the main quest with a character then start a new character but choose to load the same world you already played in...

More like... It's a completely different game on a brand new engine. Makes no sense!

That would be unfair for all of the other heroes of the world. I mean, someone's who is both the CoC and the Dovakhiin? And who is over 200 years old? Think of all the heroes in training guys!

Hm. It's known for a fact that Dunmer can live for at least 400 years or so, since Barenziah and her husband Symmachus lived that long, at least a few decades (possibly more, there's no information about Berry having died yet) longer in the case of the former. I'm not sure if there are any confirmed ages for Altmer or Bosmer to work with. Mages it's an open question... the only two examples of mages with long lifespans I can think of, Zurin Arctus and Mannimarco, both only lasted so long because they became undead (unintentionally and intentionally, respectively), so that might be the only way it's possible.

Spoiler for the Morrowind plot, probably don't need to hide it but I am anyway:
Spoiler
Of course, importing the main character from Morrowind would work time-wise anyway - part of the main quest involves becoming immune to disease and aging. <_<

And a spoiler for the Oblivion / Shivering Isles plot:
Spoiler
And the next character becomes a Daedric Prince. Maybe. And who knows what that means...

Still, no reason to bother with this... especially considering the considerable differences between the game mechanics each time. My Morrowind character would probably lose her prized spear, and the skill with that!

didn't fable like give you something for having saves in the older games? they could do that and give you some random armor or weapon from oblivion. Like an akavari katana or something

You mean like a new game+ but instead of resetting the world and quests and playing with your leveled up character you mean, keeping your world and quests but creating a new character?

I think it's just better to avoid the main quest and role play not being the dovahkiin instead of the game doing that for you.

Anyway, no. I'm against transferable characters. In a game like Mass Effect it makes sense because you are continuing the same story with the same character. In Elder Scrolls that's just not the case.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Divayth_Fyr wasn't undead, and according to Alfe Fyr was 4000 years old.

I still think the previous game character import idea stinks on ice though.

Lets add in Daggerfall into the mix:
Spoiler
The Character was stomped by Big Stompy Robot between Daggerfall and Morrowind.

And to add to Morrowind:
Spoiler
The Character is literally ship out of the game to Akavir.

These kind of thing pretty much prevent the "transferable" character from one installation to the next as a "added" game idea; not to mention it help prevent the dev to just add in a NPC that was the "Hero" from the previous game.

Of course, this should not stop ya roleplaying ability to tell how ya Character is from the previous game, if that what ya want.

Not all your characters would share the same world. Just when creating a new one you could choose to use a previous world or start a new one.
In this way you could keep your characters in the same universe. Perfect for RPing. You could RP siblings, spouses, enemies.

AND this would open up multiplayer aspects. You could be racing your brother or sister to see who completes the main quest first... stealing quests... robbing each others houses... etc.

This.
And the reason you "transfer" savegames in ME and DA is because of the choices you made in the previous game.
Oblivion didn't really have any big choices. There would be no point.
And there's not like you start on lv 20 with a lots of skills in ME2 if you transfer your savegame. The games are as different as Morrowind are to Oblivon, it wouldn't work.

I'm just assuming that OP was "inspired" by the ME savegame transfer system - I have never heard of any other game series that uses it.
Conclusion: This idea doesn't make any sense. Who would like to start out at level 20 anyways?

I want them to fix the saves because Im sick of being stuck on save 300 even if I only have saves up to say 50 then deleted the others above said number yet now I have saves 1-50 and a 301 its sorta annoying.

It doesn't make sense in terms of lore or even the gameplay. It's a different game, and will have different traits and systems in play. I don't think you'll be able to transfer a character over because so many things will be different between the games.

How would you do that when skill system is almost totally different in Skyrim?
Not to mention that idea is not necessary (so to speak) since you can just recreate your old character.
