Anyone else here a transhumanist? It's the future.

Historically, it's always ended badly for all involved.

On the fence, but doubt it. Runs too close to eugenics and other sticky problems.

Oh cool! Instead of "One ring to rule them all", We'll just have super computer chips implanted in our brains, which will then be connected(secretly) to one main super computer, to monitor and command our every thought and action.

:celebration:

Just put that chip in your brain and you'll be super smart.

Do NOT read the spoiler.

I think your school might have gotten more interesting history books than mine.

I wouldn't mind being invincible, but I would want full control over my actions and thoughts, no hive-mind, that would ruin all the originality and creativity in the world and then I'd rather be dead, besides what would happened if I bumped my head on a magnet? Mind wipe?

I don't think we will be living like the cast of Ghost in the Shell does any time soon. Then again eleven years ago if someone would come up to me we would have touchscreen cell phones I would call them flipping crazy.

Historically? Did I miss a period in history when cyborgs and bio-enhanced superhumans roamed the earth?

while I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea, this video could have done a way better job of not being incredibly creepy. The comments, however, make me want to do anything to become "posthuman"...

The idea of living forever sounds like the worst thing imaginable.

I'm all for evolving, but fusing ourselves with technology is not the way to do that.

I find transhumanism to be a fascinating idea, but unfortunately at the moment it's just that.

In the future, however? I think transhumanism is inevitable. The benefits of transhumanism are such that humanity just won't be able to say no to them. However, I doubt that a lot of the things in that video will happen. For example, I'm not sure people will be so willing to mess with their brains.

The idea of living forever sounds like the worst thing imaginable.

Why? If you and everyone you know could live forever together, never aging, what would be so terrible about that? Even if you eventually decided you wanted to end your life, suicide isn't ruled out. Dying from old age is just removed from the equation.

Ah, so this is the more narrow 'tech-only' definition of transhumanism? My education lumped in eugenics with it.

lol @ the guy who said it's a bad idea and doesn't understand transhumanism.

It's the future, you can't stop it, it's already being implemented, you can kill yourself before it happens if you want. But it's still going to happen.

I agree, and I'm not convinced how it would work. The video did seem creepy too and seemed like it was criticizing it to me.

Nobody can force a needle into the back of my head, and it's ridiculous to think the governments would force people to do it, and if they did there would be serious repercussions from the people.

I'm not talking about people who simply wish to opt out. I'm talking about the future creationist/religious morons who say that we're "ruining the natural order of things" and become terrorists and try to kill everyone, which is bound to happen with some of those religious fundamentalists.

Way to set a positive example guys/gals, I'm sure this debate and issue in the future will go just peachy. Your living proof to the joke, hahahahah.
