Translation for Theme music?

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:36 am

So I know there's already a translation for the whole "Dovakhiin" bit, but what about for the chorus that sings from 1:09 - 1:30 in this trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSRtYpNRoN0

Its the part where it plays the general 'Elder Scrolls Theme' that they've been using since Morrowind as far as I know, only this time they've put a chorus to it. Just curious as to what they're saying

(Also if anyone has any idea of what the character says, that'd be cool too, but I think its one of those dragon calls right?)

It's a part we have yet to see. People can guess at it forever, but like the teaser segment, I don't think it's in any real language so anything people could come up with would either be simply wrong or too much like jibberish to say for sure. People guessed the original piece incorrectly for weeks before it was finally posted on GI.

Dragonborn is reciting the dragon shout FUS RO DAH. It's anyone's guess on what the lyrics to the chorus are.

From what I know they sing in English since I can understand the part after 1:30. I don't have a good music ear though

I'm a native English speaker, but I can't make out anything intelligible from it. I'm going to bet not English on this one. They did the other part in Thu-um, the dragon language, so I don't see why they wouldn't do the rest of it in that language as well. We just don't know the lyrics to it like we do the other one.

None of it is in english - it's the dragon language. The chorus is 1:30 - 1:44; that's the Dovahkiin bit that we already know.

(for anyone that doesn't)

Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin
Naal ok zin los vahriin
Wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal
Ahrk fin norok paal graan
Fod nust hon zindro zaan
Dovahkiin fah hin kograan mu draal

Dragonborn, Dragonborn
By his honour is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay
And the fiercest foes rout
When they hear triumph's shout
Dragonborn, for your blessings we pray

The next bit from 1:45 - 1:51 is too short to fit as the other part of the song we already know. It sounds like a 'bridge' to me (in terms of songwriting, not translation), or just the final part of the vocal.

Does anyone knows where this part fits:

Ahrk fin kel lost prodah
Do ved viing ko fin krah
Tol fod zeymah win kein meyz fundein
Alduin feyn do jun
Kruziik vokun staadnau
Voth aan bahlok wah diivon fin lein

And the scrolls have fortold
Of black wings in the cold
That when brothers wage war come unfurled
Alduin
*, bane of kings
Ancient shadow unbound
With a hunger to swallow the world

*Alduin = Akatosh ?

Here's the translation key: http://media1.gameinformer.com/images/site/pages/esv/lines/translate.png

I'm thinking Alduin is Akatosh's evil brother.

The don't speak in English, the developers already confirmed this to infinity and beyond.

Alduin IS Akatosh, but just a different side of the same coin. If you pay attention to TES metaphysics, they revolve HEAVILY around duality. That is, the same entity having two personas.

Different cultures also define their Gods differently.

for those of you that are wondering the language is Dragonic and is a language invented by the masters at Bethesda...

FUS RO DAH. i believe is in the game informer along with the translation... its the one with skyrim on the cover

note: you must read everything in the article.

Jaomet's song translation is pretty dead on though

And there you have it.

Maybe we can try matching the bank of words we have with that and try to make some sense of it, but there will probably be some words we don't know and it'd be hard to match it up perfectly. Unless you want to save us some time...;)

A chunk of the main theme has been cut out for the trailer. It happens right after he kills the dragon during the blackout. You can hear that portion here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PW9_t2BNe0
