I will add the link for the reddit disscussuion and I encourage you to join reddit and discuss with them to even though its not mandatory. Knowing that these theorys are steeped in lore I hope the long time fans on this forum can solve this. Solve!
I'm sure there will be some sort of purpose for the bugs-in-a-jar, but I don't think it will turn out to be one big reference to Full Metal Alchemist, or that it has anything to do with the Thalmor trying to end creation. i am interested in seeing if these theories lead anywhere mind you.
I don't think the bug jars have anything to do with anything, and I'm sure modders will prove me right once they get the creation kit. The people who think there's some hidden full metal alchemist reference may very well be insane.
They're runes at the bottom of jars. Made up runes at that, likely put there because some artist needed to fill space on a texture and thought they looked Norse-y. Every time I read that thread I do this: and then this:

While I don't think they are an FMA reference they seem a bit unique and spaced out to be random clutter items...
Sigh. Repeat after me. The ruins on the bottom of the jar lids hold no hidden messages nor is it a key. It is the initials of the designers / developers. Ineeetiaaals.
