Transparencies appear yellow

Post » Sun Oct 31, 2010 7:52 am

I just bought Oblivion on Steam and I frequently run in to yellow screen overlays. For example if a rat bites me in the very first area the whole screen turns yellow for a moment then goes away, I'm assuming that's a screen overlay indicating damage.

This happens if i hit tab to bring up the character screen too, I can see the interface and my character but the area that should be alpha'd out behind him is pure bright yellow.

Z Depth problem? Missing textures?

I've deleted local data and reinstalled twice from steam.

The problem is better with AA off and bloom off, but still happens.

My graphics card is a Nvidia GTX 465 with latest drivers. Fully updated windows 7 64bit, 8gb ram, Core i7 2.8.

I can't find anything on this bug anywhere on the web. Anyone have an idea?

I thought it was just alpha'd materials but apparently it is not, here's a few screens of the issue:

Sometimes I can see only the normal and specular maps with the color map being completely yellow.

Sorry i can't get the images to embed.

Are you using any mods? This looks like an Archive Invalidation issue, but with yellow instead of purple.
You could download the Vanilla Shaders and install them into your game. I will edit this when I find the link I am thinking about.

Thanks BradleyH I'll give those a shot when I get home today.

For the record I have no mods installed, this is the fresh install from steam I'm trying to play.

That appears to have fixed my texture problem, but shortly after I started playing I crashed with no error message other than the generic windows 7 close program one. What is with this game!

I think your game is missing some data files, The Shader pack should have been inside the Steam version to begin with.

Any ideas how to get Steam to download the game in its entirety? I've removed local files / uninstalled twice and redownloaded the entire game.

I do not use a Steam version of Oblivion, I know from previous posts that Steam has a function to check a downloaded game for integrity and then repair the game.
I hope you can get the game running properly this way, but you can buy the two disc GOTY and use it for the resources, and use Steam as a way of not having to use the install disc to play.
