Transparent Object help?

Post » Fri Oct 22, 2010 5:43 pm

Hey guys, Im trying to make a semi transparent object/material. For the test I am using a random tapastry model that comes with the game. When I open the model in nifscope I right click and attach "NiAlphaProperty" I set the flag to 4845 and save it. When I Import it into the cs it appears semi transparent, exactly how I want it to look. However, when I refresh the render window or try it in game, it becomes fully opaque again. What am I doing wrong?

Any help would be GREATLY appriciated!

The overall transparency of each NiTriStrips branch is determined by Alpha value of NiMaterialProperty of that NiTriStrips.

And NiAlphaProperty only enables transparency of the object which is then further controlled by alpha channel of color map (black = invisible, white = opaque, shades of gray = transparent). So if you use random tapestry textures nothing will happen here as those usually are in DXT1 format and have their alpha channels of color maps set to white (so texture is 100% opaque then).

If you need more help with this, Vince Bly has created a transparency tutorial: http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/2637-creating-transparent-textures-an-alternate-approach/ :foodndrink:
