It's A Trap !

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:59 am

first off I love traps ... however I would love too see more off them (bigger and smallers) ... but What I want most is away for skilled ppl too detect some traps. .. Like security would highlight somthing if you are A) in the range of it B) your skill is high enough C) you are not in combat & walking / sneaking. Also would be nice if their were spell / scrolls that you could cast in a radius. Also .. no master skellton key .. I got that in a quest in oblivan and well made that skill 100% pointless ...(once you got the item foced you too use it )

List of oblivion Traps (feel free too add)

bare traps, Logs on chains from above you (trip wire / pressure plates), Arrow traps, floors falling into spikes, gas traps.

would love too see more .. too slow us down
Traqed chest, traqed bodys, traqed stairs (turn into a slide ), rooms fills with water,

Oblivion had just the right level I think. If you can make and set traps yourself that would be fine.

trapped bodies

How do you see this?

Like the body would explode if you select it?

On point I'd like to see more traps, but less obvious one like in Oblivion...

I'd like to be able to set up traps to help you beat enemies that are out of your range to kill and require ingenuity to beat. But it doesn't sound like that's going to happen with the leveling system.

Oblivion also had balls on chains and Ayleid magic traps that cast extremely powerful spells at you. Also there were those that lifted the floor and smashed you into the ceiling. Oblivion had great traps and a great amount of them. I would like Skyrim to have about the same amount of traps as Oblivion but make them extremely deadly. You need to be punished for triggering a trap.

Yeah, traps were nice. I wouldn't be surprised if they scrapped traps in Skyrim though.

I'd like to see it as a detection skill.

So for example if you've got low detection then the trap glows every so slightly red.. barely noticeable... all the way up until you skill is quite high and they become more obvious even from a distance.

I'd also like to see more varied traps :D

Well this might not be a realistic suggestion but, I think a good trap would be running into an Imperial Fleet while in the woods picking berries.

Well if they had made the PC version have darker dungeons then the traps wouldn't have been as obvious. The 360 was nice and dark in dungeons on HD settings. You had to have a torch, starlight or night-eye to be able to see in the dungeons. Even then, you tend to forget about the traps every once and awhile. But even if you triggered a trap, most of the time you didn't get killed by them. They just need to be deadlier.

My favorite was the hall of swinging blades. Those were fun.

Oh and I would just like to add that I thought most of the fun associated with traps was not seeing them. I would hate it if some skill I needed for something else were to make spotting them even easier. I would also like for enemies to be effected by the traps in the same way as me. I know some were in oblivion but I also remember tricking skeletons to run onto a section of floor that then dropped down onto spike and they wouldn't be hurt. That was annoying.

More types of traps but definitely not all over every dungoen. If they were to do that then the traps would just become very boring.

Yeah the spell glyph traps sound very very interesting.

One trap I would like to see, is a room closes up around you, and poison gas COMPLETELY fills the room.

As long as one of the perks isn't like 'Light Step' from Fallout - Completely defeated the point of having them in the first place.

Maybe one that gave some kind of warning, provided your paying attention so you can't just rush through every cave and dungeon. That might work. :/

I myself like traps too, especially 'timed' traps... like the swinging blades.

I wouldn't mind some harder or more complex traps, myself, rather than simply spamming them all over the place.

I think Oblivion had it. Except traps need to be a bit more deadly.

If traps are around every other corner, then they'll just become annoying. Oblivion had quite a few I thought, but not too many. Maybe a few less. But I want trapped doors, like in Morrowind :)

I would like also to have the chance of deactivating the traps, always, with enough security skill or with different means depending on the trap.

Oblivion overdid it with traps in some places, especially Aleyid ruins. Think about it there is not a single Aleyid ruin that looks hospitable to bring up some little Aleyid children in.

Aleyid Mother: Have a fun day at class and remember not to tease the claustrophobic kids, you know how hard it is for them here.
Aleyid Kid: Yes mom, I can get my kicks out of other things, I may not see any art and the walls may all be white but I get more than enough creativity in Destruction spell classes, they rock!
Aleyid Mother: Go now and remember to watch out for the lever that releases the skeletons, and the gas chambers!
Aleyid Kid: Yes I know already jeez... well I′m off *walks away* *splat*
Aleyid Mother: Crap... I forgot to mention the elevating floor that crushes invaders against the spikes in the ceiling...

I would like to see traps not just in dungeons, but in the homes of NPCs and in the wilderness itself. For example:

Some sort of thief traps (doors that scream when lock-picked, rugs that would trap a trespasser until the trespasser has been discovered and guards arrive to arrest him/her)
Animal traps (pitfalls, bear traps, snares, deadfalls)

I also support magical traps. These traps wouldn't be so deadly as they would be puzzles to confound and delay a player. Think of Inception with the staircase trick.

This reminds me, there should be trap deactivating systems avalaible for the owners (keys, convination of buttons...).
