Travel In Skyrim

Post » Sat Oct 15, 2011 9:52 pm

What's going on, Skyrimmers?!

Looking at everything we know, all the images and videos... Do you think finding the right path and accessible routes around Skyrim and up all the mountains is going to be an issue? Will we climb up part of a mountain and then realize it's too steep and have to back track to find a better way up? Do you think we will spend a lot of time having to run around the mountains to get from A to B? Will this be irritating after a couple dozen hours?

Please, share you thoughts and ideas.

You rock.

Absolutely not. That's called exploring. :D If I wanted an easy trip through the park I'd play a different game.

I think a trip over the mountains, finding mountain camps and caves would be fun! And who know there may be a dangerous way through the mountains... Mines of moria?! :P

It'll be easy to find paths. And the harder the path, rewards will be better :celebration:

Thats just game design in a huge open world
They cant map all
85675/27438000000000 pathways you can take over mountain ranges to never have this happen

And to those that said morrowind did it better?
Do you realize what you're saying?
1.skyrim isnt out yet so how do you know?
2. Skyrim is also being hand-made just like morrowind
So i think when tes6 comes out you'll prolly be trolling

Exploring has always been a major part of the franchise and I also liked it in the first two Fallouts, Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Doubtful. According to the map there seem to be plenty of roads/paths around the mountains. And the encounters along the way should make the trip more than interesting.

If i want to fast travel, i will be using the morrowind type fast travel. It was confirmed to be in this game, as well as the cheep oblivion "port across the world" crap.

that is infact a way of navigating through skyrim. And if you want to talk about walking everywhere. it will be an adventure.

I kind of hope that with the reintroduction of a Morrowind type fast travel system, they will bring back the ability to only travel to major points of intrest (towns and such). The ability to just say "yeah.. i wana port to this ruin" was annoying.

I'm not concerned with spending a lot of time climbing a mountain only to find a certain route impassable, adds more to the adventuring side of things to me.

I like the fact there are two options in Skyrim. Either you can travel by carriage and walk from there or just fast ravel itself. This satisfies both parties on traveling. I think it will be easier and more fun to explore old mountain passes, you never know what you will come across.

The ability to just say "yeah.. i wana port to this ruin" was annoying.

Then don't do it! You are fully free to only use the carriages if you so desire.

It's the best compromise for sure. I actually had an argument with someone a few months ago where they were trying to claim it's not a compromise unless you can ONLY use fast travel or carriages ever, and never the option of either or. That just went to show me it's impossible to please everyone. The way they've chosen to go obviously will likely satisfy the vast majority of both view points though.

I cant wait for the thrill of looking at the high mountain and trying to guess how can I reach their top and starting to climb and going around big boulders, and looking here and there to find routes that bypass big obstacles and finally conquering the mountain peaks one after another.

Hope they have placed small and big surprises around those mountains to be discovered. :)

Hmmm. I think they need to give us acrobatics back so we can hop around like idiots until we get atop/past mountains in our way. ;)
