Traveling merchants should not be able to be killed!

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2016 4:53 pm

Morchai: Thanks. I honestly thought that Carla and Cricket where the only traveling merchants in Fallout 4.

I am not exactly Covenants favorite SS after my first visit their so avoid the place now, and as for the Slog, I helped out the settlers their the first time I found the place but have never gone back. I guess this armor selling dude and the doc just where somewhere else when I was their.

I'll have to go back to those locations if for no other reason that to meet them.

All settlers are protected. Attack some random settlers and let your companion beat them up. They'll just go into knock-out mode until you kill them or get them to accept surrender.

Oh. I know why. She occasionally sells a Fusion Core (or I must've sold one to her, whichever) and Gunners were attacking Sanctuary. I was just making a mention why I wouldn't have to worry much about her.

Either you're on PC and using a mod, lying out of ye' behind, or you accidentally threw a grenade yourself and that killed her.

I'm just saying, I've tested it already myself and had everybody in my Sanctuary settlement (with one of them using a Fat Man) and she didn't die like a protected NPC would. She only died when I hit her finally after all of that.

The Covenant are going to hate me once again... And once again, I'm going to have to forcibly take over the Covenant because of them.

Um, no. Xbox One, I don't lie on forums - what's the point? - and like I said in my post, I wasn't even involved in the fight just came out to loot bodies after it was over. Come on it's not like Bethesda is known for bug-free games.

With the host of other glitches and other odd behaviour people experience in their games at times, I assume weird stuff like that can happen. And why would someone lie. For myself, I have one of my radio towers inviting settlers when it's in "off" mode, and not inviting when I turn it on. All the other radio towers works as they should. Now why it is like that I have no idea, but things happen.

The caravan guards certainly can't die. I just got through a super mutant battle where some caravan guards "jumped in'. The super mutants would lay out the caravan guards in seconds. the guards would then do what all companions do, sit there injured. The super mutants would then walk away like the guards were dead and then the guards would get back up and start fighting again.

I lost Connie Abernathy who was my concrete contact...I feel your pain. It was a bit more personal when I found her dead at the farm as I've always helped the Abernathy's out. I didn't even know that she could die without me being around but I guess the mutants got her while I was running to protect their farm.

I made the second tier general merchant stand but it doesn't do a thing, i can only trade with them, regardless of the time of day. I figured that is how it was suppose to work since trashcan carla showed up the first time shortly after making the stand.

You can do this with any settlement.

They can die. You just gotta be the one to kill them.

Part of me loves the idea with being able to kill anyone and everyone. I don't like the essential status for some NPC's. But sometimes I regret that as well since I've killed off many important characters and had had to restart or load earlier saves just because of that! :)

This is why i don't use missile turrets in base defense,as i've had travelling merchants killed by splash from my own turrets while in knockout mode.

With the new settlement stuff and the whole supply line deal, I think a great solution would be to be able to have some station that alerts you of dead traveling merchants you've shopped with and reassign a current settler to take their place and generate a random name for them to make them differentiate from the settlers that live there. Could actually be a good way to remove a settler you don't want living in your settlements anymore without killing them.

so you killed her by accident and want to blame the devs for this? As mentioned above, the Merchants are of the "protected" type. Killing blow has to be landed by the PC. They are basically "essential" to non-PC objects and can be downed but not killed by them.

If somebody kills Trashcan Carla in my game I will personally blow every limb off their body, place them in a dumpster at Sanctuary Hills underneath a lit sign that says "strait to digital hell" with an arrow pointing down!

She's one of the best junk and shipment dealers in the game and I don't even have to fast-travel to get to her.

If this happens to me I'll be so stinking mad! Since she is the best fertilizer shipment vender in the game it would wreak havoc on my black market drug dealing economy! I have literally rebuilt the commonwealth with jet. It's like the equivalent to tobacco's effect on the Jamestown colony. Jet has saved the commonwealth and I couldn't have done it without Connie Abernathy!

No,i've saw turrets kill them.I've also seen the doc get killed by an explosion from a car i think it was(might have been a fatman too ,kinda hard to tell because all hell had broken loose with super mutants, raiders and a BoS vertibird involved and i was close to an epileptic seizure) but i do know this,it was not my gunfire that had exploded the car and i definitley wasn't throwing missiles or fatmen around.

Oh actually?I've saw the armour guys lifeless body in the city towards the east,(there's a long bridge, forget the exact location)in my prior game,so something other than me had killed him too at some point in the past.

Travelling merchants getting killed isn't too bad anyway. With any number of settlements having the potential to house traders of all variety, available shops are as far as your nearest settlement.

I have finished the game and still have not seen Trashcan Carla...I did see Cricket get killed by a bear...but I can only assume that at this late stage of my game she must have got killed somewhere else in the game.

Rather than set Merchants essential, it'd be better to set them to Respawn, and possibly to "forget" that you shot them...Friendly fire in these games is a bit of a mess sometimes.

But Carla is "protected" so she can die if you land the killing blow.

Mostly in Bethsada games its best not to get involved in ongoing fights due to how easy it is to deal splash damage everywhere.

Turrets placed by the player can kill protected NPC's just like the player character can. They are considered weapons weilded by the player character. The turrets don't even work unless the player character is with in a certain distance from them. So the dumb NPC AI tactic of charging every enemy they see will get them killed if they run into the turrets line of fire. Missile turrets are the worse ones for this to happen. It only takes one good shot from them.

Oh, one tip I will pass on. Don't use weapons with exploding bullets in settlement defense fights. Or any fights where you have NPC's in the area. The explosions will kill them. I found that out when I took out Doc Weathers, his brahmin, and all of his guards with a string of shots at a Super Mutant Suicider that was charging them.
