Treasure hunting guild

Post » Sat Jul 30, 2011 1:55 pm

So I was thinking about other possible guilds that would fit in Skyrim, and a thought came to mind, treasure-hunting! I think it would be a great addition to the game if there was a guild like this, because there are many opportunites for quests involving treasure-hunting. You and other members go out into the wilderness of Skyrim and explore tombs/forts/caves/etc, to find hidden treasure. Your guild learns of the locations of the treasures by town rumors/books/legends and so on. To make the quests even more interesting, at some locations there is a violent rival treasure hunting guild as well, and you end up fighting them to ensure you get the treasure, not them. I think this would make for a very fun and interesting faction. What do you think?

Also I forgot to mention what the treasure would be. It would be an assortment of random high-level loot that can be sold(or keep for yourself) for a good deal of money.

Great faction idea, I personally love raiding dungeons, but the one thing I would add is something like a fence at the treasure hunting guild who will buy ancient artifacts and such.

Yea thats not a bad idea. Having a fence like the ones from the thieves guild in Oblivion would be a good addition.

agreed, it would be nice to have a place to sell high priced artifacts somewhere because the normal merchants couldnt afford them.

I can't say I find the idea all that realistic. Why would an organization like that form?

If the guild leaders were finding the locations of these treasures, why don't they get them themselves instead of having to divide the wealth among adventurers?

And how could an organization like that stay afloat when there's nothing to stop a guild member from taking the treasure for themselves?

How does the Thieves guild work then?

I love your ideas about books and rumors being used to give clues to treasure locations. But, instead of a guild, I'd rather just treasure hunt on my own.

There was maybe, one book in Oblivion that lead you to treasure, I think. I would like quite a few books (like maybe 10) that lead you to ruins and to treasure.

Treasures tend to be in difficult to reach locations, so bonding together and sending out a whole team would be more efficient and less risky, so it makes sense. Also, some clues might be in old languages or require specific knowledge in order to be understood correctly, so the more, the merrier.

How about scholars instead? Archaeologists and historians that go out on expeditions to restore long lost artifacts and knowledge? Yu could either acompany them as a mercenary that protects them or as a full member who wants to find out stuff, too. (Or both!)

The thieves guild is more like a bunch a guys that get to getter at see who can out do each others, trade information, and sell within the group.

They are like hackers.

A treasure hunters guild makes no sense as it would be a bunch off freelance treasure hunters who would get together to boast about their tomb raiding Sound more like a club then an organization.

I agree. I could see like a archaeological guild or something, but that would be really boring...

Treasure hunters (read: tomb robbers) never really ever form guilds in real life... maybe gangs...

The thieves guild offered protection to thieves via bribes, and fences for stolen goods, so there was incentive for individuals to organize into a structure like that.

With treasure hunting though, there is no incentive to organize. Unless artifact gathering in Skyrim would be considered 'tomb raiding' or 'grave robbing', then no doubt, a black market for ancient relics would sprout up, along with organized treasure hunters.

Tl;dr There's no incentive to organize unless you're breaking the law.

I wouldn't say a treasure hunting guild.

They call themselves preservers of archaic objects and pay men to to do treasure diving for them into caves and ruins. Like an Indiana Jones for hire.

I know it probably wouldn't work, but I just think it would be fun to do, due to the fact that I like raiding dungeons. That is just my opinion.
