Tree texturing issue

Post » Wed Sep 15, 2010 7:27 pm

I've been messing around with some tree texture mods and I'm fairly certain I've gone and screwed something up:

I'm not wrong about this, right? Morrowind trees aren't normally wrapped in plastic, right?

Anyway... any suggestions as to how this could have happened? Have I accidentally overwritten a .dds file that was supposed to go with a different .nif or something?

Update: in an "experiment" I tried removing the directory Data Files\Meshes\f, which contained the .nif files for the Ascadian Isles trees, shrubs and rocks from Vurt's AI texture mod.

But what I don't understand is why those .nif files would have that kind of weird gloss effect...? It looks like bump mapping gone horribly wrong... Surely that can't be what the mod author intended?

vurt does use gloss maps in his AI mod, but it definitely isn't supposed to look like that. The Morrowind Code Patch includes a fix for bump/gloss maps that makes them dependent on local lighting, if you don't have that, I would suggest trying it.

I'm using http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=444351&id=8190 version. Is that not the most recent?

I tried removing all the shaders (all two of 'em) that I was using in MGE and that didn't fix the situation. Could this be some kind of driver issue? I'm using an 260GTX with the 257.21 drivers for Vista 64...

2.4a is the latest version there and it fixes some issues with too shiny textures so make sure you're using that version.

I have ATI myself, could be that it looks different with a Nvidia card. Latest Morrowind Code Patch is recommend too.

It looks fine on my Nvidia card. As vurt said, you should get the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19510, any mod that uses the mapping techniques that vurt uses is going to look strange without it.
