A Tribute to my Muse

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 1:22 am

While working on my Amzufelth mod, one person above all else has spurred me on to greater heights, and that is my sweet muse. I cannot mention her by name, but she is a woman of exceptional intelligence, beauty and grace. The kind of woman every guy wants to grab hold of and keep hidden in his house where no one else can gaze upon her. She is truly a treasure beyond words, and I don't even think I could begin to elucidate you about how wonderful she is.

Therefore, as a small (inconsequential) thanks, I am building her a house in the Ascadian Isles. This house, simply called "Home", is going to be worked on between bursts of Amzufelth, and is going to be my most detailed mod ever. So far, after almost sixteen hours of work, I have almost completed the exterior and one interior. I'm posting the screenshots below.

This mod isn't going to be for her alone, though. Although it's made in tribute to her, it will be hosted for download so that others can enjoy it the way she will.

The interior is going to be large enough to support a family plus guests (for those of you with companion mods). Probably going to have a master bedroom (2 people), two secondary bedrooms (another 2), two guest rooms (yet another two). It will also have a library, kitchen, dining room and sitting room.

A woman from the internet showed interest in your work and you fell in love with her and decided to make a mod for her.....

Well.
Ok.

Cool looking house in anycase. Where is it located?

Actually, she is not a woman from the internet. She is a woman from real life. And it is located in the Ascadian Isles, grid 0, -5

Nice screenshots. :) I like how you built a larger whole out of the existing house pieces (though I'd probably put some foliage into the corner where the mismatching colors meet). I hope your muse enjoys it - keeping one's muse happy is important, especially if she enjoys the same things you do. :)

@Psycholex: Not sure how the internet comes into play in your post, it's as good a place to find partners as any (arguably, for nerds such as myself, it's a much _better_ place than others ... in fact, The Woman Of My Dreams ™, which is currently sitting less than 3 meters away from me playing Second Life, met me in the Internet and showed interest in my work ... ;) We also have been known to chat on IRC while we sat right next to each other, and last Valentine's Day I made her Guild Wars character a heart of Red Iris Flowers. So don't underestimate the romantic possibilities of the internet. ;) )

The exterior of the house, amusingly, keeps growing somehow. I've tried to build the interiors to match the exterior shape, and sometimes I have to tweak things. I'm too used to working with Dwemer ruins, which go underground and don't really have matching exterior pieces (the tower notwithstanding). And just because she enjoyed my Dwemer stuff, I've included a little secret in the house for anyone with enough tenacity to try to find.

Lastly, I am proud to finally present you with a (muse sanctioned) name for this house: Ondurin Vareg.

And Psyringe, that's a neat idea for V-Day. My muse and I are sadly apart for the moment, so romantic gestures are usually a bit difficult, but we manage through the use of the internet. And I think what Psycholex was saying was that he suspected that I fell in love with my muse just for the fact that she showed interest in my mod. Not true. On October 20, I'll have known her for two full years :).

A few more screenshots for you all to enjoy...

All that and it's still just a WIP. The exterior has been slightly modified as well, adding a third level. When this mod is all done, I plan to walk through it and record it as well, seeing as there are some secret rooms that need videos to truly showcase. Well, a secret room and a minor secret.

Thank you, skaeps.mp3. I appreciate it. That was one of the things I was trying to improve with this mod - adding things like clutter, books, miscellaneous objects, etc. whilst minimizing weapons, armor and loot. Make it feel more like a home rather than someone's fortress that could be assaulted at any time... although, what with it being Morrowind and all, there are a few little things scattered about ;)

Also, I might release two versions of this mod, just because I was thinking along with my muse.

Ondurin Vareg Mansion.esp would contain just the house and the trimmings.

Ondurin Vareg Mansion Full.esp would also add NPCs, dialog, etc.

What do you think?

Will post more screenshots tomorrow. Very tired - almost 1am here. Only the Guest Corridor and Library left to finish. Attic possibly if I decide one is a good idea. Might not. Total time invested in this mod now bordering on 84 hours.

You should make something new, this pic became boring. Honestly.

Really nice work Commander. People work off their best when they have a muse. :foodndrink:

Thanks for the compliments... I'll post screenshots this afternoon, after I've finished a bit more. Even though I tried going to bed after posting (It was like 2 am) I ended up staying awake/coherent enough to put together the attic, almost finish the Library and fix a few bugs. Just the Library and Guest wing to go, and then it's just cosmetic details. Plants here, clutter there, that sort of thing. Or, if you all want to wait, I can post a video overview of the house tomorrow.
