Tridents

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 10:31 pm

Are tridents even effective weapons? They never looked too effective to me. Seems like you'd need extra force to stab someone with it because it's spread out into 3 areas. Anyone have any reliable info on the actual usefulness of tridents?

Offhand, I think they were used in Roman gladiatorial matches in conjunction with a net. I could be mistaken, though.

What is a spear in the classical sense? A long stick with a pointy metal part on the end, oh but if it looks like a fork then it's definitely not a spear? Or are you hoping for a TMNT trident?

I'm not sure, but I think a spear in the classical sense refers exclusively to a long stick with a pointy bit on the end.

The "TMNT trident" is not a trident at all, but a Sai.

It's probably more useful because of the spread or "wingspan". And yea, the pressure psi spread over three points would require more force, unless you only hit them with one prong.

There are no spears, as a result there will be no tridents, i can guarantee that. The reason is simple, tridents are used in the exact same way, if spears don't get their own animation and thus do not make it into the game, tridents won't either, simple as that.

Yeah, the way I imagine it, strike with a trident, and if they hit at once, it's hard to make a serious puncture, or strike with the middle one first, and the ones on the side block it so you can't just go straight through like a spear.

What's better than a trident to kill a dragon? A shield of course, to protect my ass.

Whats better then a shield? A shield AND a trident.

You can't make the "it's Norse" argument if it isn't Norse.

Oh i thought he was just saying it shouldn't be added because it isn't viking. I don't think Skyrim should limit itself to just being historical viking related. I must of just missed the people saying that Tridents were Norse

like Todd said, no classical spears...
Where and when did Todd officially say "no spears"? It wasn't mentioned in the GI magazine I bought or in the interview videos. Was it something on Twitter?

lol skewed poll much?

Not any more I removed it.

If the OP is not prepared to give a constructive choice in the poll there is no point in it being there. Let's just discuss whether we want tridents in the game.

One problem could be that probably all weapon swinging animations are the slashing/chopping kind, which is inappropriate for spears/tridents and other stabby weapons like that. So they'd have to make new animations specificially for that kind of weapon.

FYI: I didn't include an "I don't care" option in the pole because if you don't care, you shouldn't be voting anyways. But if you do care, please vote and comment. I want to hear your opinion.

EDIT: I also took out the "No" option to better help reinforce my opinion. So if you want to say no, leave a very in depth answer why not?

Anyway, your reasons are fails.

Also, Todd did say that there won't be spears in a classical way, but that doesn't mean that there will be tridents.
Your interpretation of what he said totally wrong.

Why
Reason 1: The game takes place in skyrim, a place and race obviously influenced by vikings, so why should the game leave out an important tool/ weapon from viking legend and culture? There is a pot city after all, who's chief resource is most likely uh.... I dunno, the OCEAN!!

I have never heard of the vikings using tridents as a weapon, nor have I heard of it in any of the famous legends. Maybe you are mistaking the trident for a rake, a gardening tool.

It's good with lots of weapon variety. But I won't cry a river if they exclude the trident as a weapon.
