Tried updating drivers for 4870 to 11.3, max resolution not

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:51 pm

I was using 10.11 drivers for my ATI 4870 1GB on Vista 64 home. I tried updated to 11.3 and then 11.2(because 11.3 res did not work right) but both would not let me go to my max res of 1080p. Stopping at 720. I had to use system restore to get things working again, any one else encounter this or know of a solution?

Did you try setting it from within the CCC (Desktop Management/Desktop Properties)? 1920x1080 wasn't in the list?

yes, the list only went up to 720. And I did restart my system.

Try running the installer again. Sometimes the Catalyst installer doesn't install the driver.

I have a 4890 myself which is pretty similar, but I updated just fine and run at 1920x1080.

Ok I fixed it. I installed it again and this time, I check to make sure it showed my monitor(some people when updating there monitor was not show, just some generic one). It did show my monitar but I noticed it there was an icon with 2 screens, which said my display is on 2 screens(which I don't have 2 monitors hooked up). At one point I had a tv hook up(long ago and for a very short period, few minutes perhaps). So I disabled the 2nd display. Then check properties again and I was able to set my monitor at 1080p.

But I have another question, in display it only listed up to 1600xwhatever, then there were 2 hd options so I picked 1080p, is this the way its listed now? Just seems kind of odd.

I am referring to Catalyst Control Panel. As I said in my op I am using Vista 64 Home. Its like lt always was, using windows to change the res, so I guess things are fine, just thrown off by how CCC list it now.

Is there any reason to get the new driver for the 4870? I currently use one.

 Why not keep up to date on drivers? It'll probably save you trouble with newer game releases down the road. I've got a 4870x2 myself, and I just updated to 11.3 a few days ago. No problems.
