Triple Buffering?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 7:44 am

Hi,
I noticed (dx9 mode), if vsync is active in the game setings it seems to be triple buffered. Is this true? I heard Triple Buffering is very unusual for Microsofts DirectX environment. You can also see this as NVIDIA and AMD offer the option only for openGL (e.g. Quake III Arena)

I'm pretty sure triple buffering has been around for some time for DirectX games. I always force it on when I can whenever I turn on v-sync.

It's not true no but D3D tripplebuffer can be forced on with a utility that comes with Rivatuner.

^this.

"D3Doverrider" is a standalone utility in the RivaTuner package... Made a huge difference for me in SP, smoothing out the stutters significantly at the higher settings. Its kinda interesting that it works as well as it does, given that I'm already vram challenged and triple-buffering uses more vram. Just hit the sweet spot, I guess. I've heard others report "meh" results. Very worth trying.

I will try this D3DOverrider, thx. I hope it doesn't increase lag noticeably. My Dell 2407wfp has enough input lag already..
