Description

One of the Gang aims to satisfy the immersionist player, and in doing so it fills a void that stealth characters in particular have been missing. Everyone who is anyone has had their run-ins with the law, so at some point you’ve probably decided to ‘Resist Arrest’ and try your luck with fleeing. In Vanilla Oblivion your only option is to either stand and fight or run so far into the Wilderness that you are lost yourself. This mod offers you the choice of disguising yourself as one of your pursuers. Unlike many of the other disguise modifications out there ‘TRN One of the Gang’ homes in firmly on Imperial Legion disguise and concealment.

___________________________________________________________________

Disguise:

- Imperial Legion armour disguises the player as a member of the Imperial Legion.
- Different races need varying armour parts to disguise themselves.
- Being caught by a real guard changing into or out of Imperial Legion armour results in a fine.
- If you are spotted by an NPC they will report you. However, if they like you enough, or your personality is high enough, you might just get away with it.
- If you are a member of the Thieves’ Guild or the Dark Brotherhood your fellow guild members will never report your misdeeds.
- If you are disguised as a soldier and you enter a fight, nearby guards may join in on your side.
- Quickly disguising yourself after a crime can prove to be the perfect get away.
- A disguised player has permission to sleep in the Legion Barracks, and dine in their food hall.
- Legion armouries are available for equipment restocking if you are disguised.
- NPCs and merchants who are well disposed towards the Imperial Legion will be more courteous towards you and give you better deals when shopping.

Forgery:

- Before you can delve into the fun of forging your own Imperial Legion documents you must first unravel the clues to find out where the clandestine documents are stored.
- Forging is a skill in itself, with various conditions and tricks that must be fulfilled to successfully counterfeit a document.
- An alternative way to remove your ill-gotten bounty.
- Often hilarious consequences for failure.

Other:

- The Imperial Legion Armoury has been spruced up, guards have been added to the area also to give it an atmosphere of industry.
- A disguised player can use any horse that is owned by the Imperial Legion. Check out the different cities’ stables to see if there is anything that you can use.

___________________________________________________________________

New in Version 1.3

Completely new content:
- Townguard armour now disguises you - Anvil, Bravil, Bruma, Cheydinhal, Chorrol, Kvatch, Leyawiin, and Skingrad. (also: Bartholm);
- If you spend time in the guise of a townguard you can collect wages from that towns' Paymaster;
- A new quest for Anvil;
- Cash payslips that can be earned or stolen with garrison Paymasters;
- Suspicion System;
- You can buy a selection of Legion equipment from fences;
- You can now spar with with Imperial City Legion Armoury soldiers by using a practice sword;
- All towns have Legion and garrison horses for riding.

Suspicion System:
- It is easy for a player to become disguised once he/she has the correct uniform, however from version 1.3 onwards they will have to maintain that disguise!
- Suspicious behaviour, when disguised, is punished by the Suspicion System;
- If you act or look suspicious your disguise will slip and depending on where you are at that moment you may be caught;

Factors that influence suspicion include:

- Weapons and arrows not made of Silver or Steel;
- Wearing mismatching townguard cuirass and shields;
- Riding a non-Legion owned horse, or riding another garrison's horse;
- Running;
- Sneaking;
- Having your weapon out;
- Size of player's bounty when undisguised;
- Player's level of infamy when undisguised;
- Player's level of Personality, Luck, Illusion and Speechcraft.

Changes to disguising:

- Passive redisguising - if you get caught, but still are wearing the correct equipment, you may suddenly become redisguised if you kill/lose your pursuers.
- Amulet that appeared when you became disguised was removed.

Other changes:

- Shield is no longer required to complete a disguise, but can be useful to reduce Suspicion.
- Re-Fixed the glitch where opening any container in the Armoury resulted in the +5 Marksmanship bonus;
- Armoury targets give marksman experience;
- Journal entries reworded.

Congratulations :tops: !

Definitely seems like an improvement over other disguise mods. I'm going to give it a look.

BTW, how does it play with mods that either alter the Legion Armor or use a different armor to replace the Legion Armor?

Thanks for the hard work,
-Francisco-

All tests for this version point to full compatibility with other Legion amour mods/re-placers.

Instead of the Imperial Legion Armor, can I use Bruma's cuirass and shield to disguise myself? Or use the unplayable (vanilla, but playable with mods) legion armor, that they wear in the center district of the IC to disguise myself?

You cannot use Bruma's Cuirass. I have purposefully not included the city garrison livery. However you can certainly use Imperial 'Palace' Armour. Any armour for the Imperial Legion added by mods like OOO can also be used.

Update in Progress
I'm going to carry on developing the mod, giving it tweaks here and there.

One person has requested:
The only thing that I would change, if I were you and knew how, would be to make it so the guards don't recognize you as the "Hero of Kvatch."

I have an idea as to how it might be achieved so I am currently working on implementing this feature.
Currently NPCs can hail you as "Grand Champion", "Champion of Cyrodiil", and "Hero of Kvatch", etc... I'm trying to change that in favour of more Legion orientated comments.

Update 1.1 is due soon. I'm working on a fairly substantial Easter Egg at the moment.

The Version 1.1 Patch is now available. To install it follow the Readme instructions.

New in Version 1.1

- Fixed the issue where the player was passively identified as 'Hero of Kvatch', 'Champion of Cyrodiil', 'Hero of Bruma' etc.
- NPCs will no longer greet a disguised player as an 'Ashborn', 'Treehugger', or any other race dependent comments.
- More general comments like 'I heard there is a new Grand Champion, someone called xxx' have been left alone.
- Some minor Pathgrid tweaks in the Armoury.
- New dialogue for the beggars in the 'Discovering Forgery' Quest.

Note: If you catch anyone calling you 'Hero of Kvatch', or something similar please make a note and report it. Chances are I missed it among the 20,000+ lines of dialogue.

I won't lie to you. As with most mods, there are a few bugs.
However I've worked hard to remove what I can.

There is currently one known conflict. That is if you are using kuertee's Clothing Matters mod.
However if you go to the Clothing Matters .ini file, in your Oblivion directory, and set:
kCMQuest.guardArmourCrimeGold to 0kCMQuest.guardArmourIsADisguise to 0

It will not conflict anymore and you can use the other features of that mod.

The audio Lip Syncing isn't brilliant. Like its okay-ish, but it doesn't look amazing.

Finally in the version 1.1 release there is a pretty substantial Easter Egg, and no it isn't mentioned in the Readme, and no I'm not saying anything until someone finds it. Contained within the Easter Egg there is another minor issue that I am trying to resolve. It doesn't occur everytime, and it can be avoided by going slowly. Obviously if you haven't found the Easter Egg this won't make any sense to you.

None of these three should cause crashes. So other than slightly wonky lips the mod should run quite smoothly. I revamped the coding about 6 times until I couldn't make it any more efficient. You shouldn't really notice much lag at all caused by this mod in-game, and only perhaps a slight delay in your inventory. But this is natural for most mods, and the effects here have been minimized.

I hope this answers your question.

I finally had time to play. I just finished the forgery quest and I must say it was quite subtle
Spoiler
it was by chance that I managed to get the book from Phintias, but it totally makes sense to have to be disguised to get it since it is implied in the note :P

As far as the Easter egg is concerned, I think I have a clue as to what it could be:
Spoiler
is it the secret legion tavern? If it is, I've not managed to open the door... yet

I have one tiny thing to report:

When you start the forgery quest, in the first pop-up message it reads "your bounty" on the first (or second, well it's the only "your" in the text) sentence, but the rest is written in first person. I think it should be modified to reflect that.

Thanks again for making this neat mod :tops:

edit: as far as lipsync is concerned, maybe it's "buggy" because the voice actors speak too fast. In Oblivion, the different characters speak rather slowly, maybe to allow the engine to process the sentences?

Update in Progress

I am hoping to introduce a 'Favour' System.
The idea is if you are nice to the guards then they will be willing to do nice things for you. You buy then an ale when you're in the local Tavern, they might loan you a key for the barracks. (And other situations)

That is a very rough idea of what I plan. I have a semi-working (unvoiced version) coming together. Thoughts? Suggestions?

A few minor tweaks on the way

-New sounds to tell you if you have been successfully/unsuccessfully disguised/undisguised.
-Khajiit and Argonians don't have their tail showing when disguised.
-One player reported that he had an issue with lighting being too bright in the armoury, fixing.
-When you become disguised guards always stop chasing you; no more 5 guards talking to you once your bounty has been cleared.
-Securitry and Sneak Trainers will not train a player disguised as a guard.

Beautiful, was hoping this had been released when I logged into the forums! Got my game reinstalled and ready to con some guards

Thank you for your wonderful praise. It has put a smile into my evening. Kudos to nice people.
