Trolls in online games!

Post » Sun Apr 05, 2015 3:57 pm

So, I got curious, are there too many trolls when you play online? Be it a MOBA, MMORPG, FPS or whatever you play that has a multiplayer. Being someone from Brazil, I don't need to tell that we suffer with several trolls, specially those who only dies to aid the other team. So, is it common in the servers you play?

Trolling done right is funny.

Trolling when done wrong is just annoying.

That being said, there are too many bad trolls out there.

There are trolls in every online game you will ever play. Ever.
You can't avoid it.

When done creatively and by not becoming insulting, a troll can be a funny new way to view an aspect of a game.
But that is incredibly rare.

I don't really mind trolls too much and in a certain sense they're easy to deal with.

I do have an issue with people who believe everyone but them is a troll. Bad at a certain fight in a game and they're not? You're a troll. Have bad lag? You're a troll. Everyone is a troll but them.

Or the elitist who thinks they're better than everyone and is just generally not fun to play with.

I have more issues with that than trolls.

I rarely notice trolls. To me, online games are MSPORPGs (Massively Sinple-Player Online Rolplaying Games). A game like World of Warcraft is full of curiously-named NPCs who behave in unpredictable ways, and who I mostly ignore. :)

Avoid basing most of your online playing experience on fleeting encounters with strangers you will probably never see again afterwards. That's what mostly happens with games that utilize random matchmaking for multiplayer. Instead find a dedicated server (or some sort of community equivalent, like a guild in a MMO) with an active administration team that enforces sensible rules. That means people will start behaving themselves, and it will all around be a much more pleasant place that people will want to come back to, and does wonders for improving your online experience. It's like comparing YouTube comments to a good forum.

I 2nd that.

I actually enjoy this part trolling, a good troll will make laugh when I am their target, and when I in the rare occasion decide to troll someone, I do it in a light hearted manner, and if Im truly pissing someone off, I will try to stop and make amends.

Hue.

HueHueHue.

I like trolls. Imagine an internet without the good ones? It'd be boring as [censored]. Trolling is an art and when done right? It's beautiful.

HEUEHUEHUEHUHEUEHA!

Haha i love it. Been many years since i played any MMOs, but man was Tibia bad for that with the BR trolls (there were trolls of other nationalities, but since there were so many Brazilians in that game, there was just more BR trolls).

I dont know how bad they are now a days, but i assume they could have only gotten worse.

But yeah, for all the 99 thousand annoying trolls, there's one good one who's just funny as [censored].

I love trolls. Mount and Blade games have some of the best trolls.

I don't like how the media has called cyber bullies "Trolls"

A troll is somebody who winds people up on the internet, not launch vicious attacks at somebody's twitter.

Trolls can be a breath of fresh air online so long as they're not annoying kids who think they're funnier then they actually are or don't know when to stop.

I've stumbled across a few funny troll vids of a "gay thug" playing Call of Duty and GTA V online which I thought were pretty funny. I can't link them for obvious language reasons but that's the sort of troll I get a kick out of when playing as people believe him and fall for his trolling in a funny way.

I really don't run across them very much in MMOs. Almost never.
