Trolls were SO much better in Oblivion than Skyrim

Post » Sun Aug 04, 2013 6:36 am

In Oblivion, coming across a troll at low levels was something to fear, not only could they regenerate health, but they could easily outrun you. Yesterday I had a running battle with a troll in Oblivion from Bravil to Leyawiin... the svcka would just not give up.. I expended everything I had on him but I still ended up with broken weapons. In the end I had to camp on a rock like a coward and wait for dawn to make a run for it to Leyawiin. This was just 1 frickin troll!!!

In skyrim, they are just way too slow to be any kind of threat. So your getting your ass kicked? simply run away at the default jog speed. Oblivion trolls FTW... the only thing akin to them in Skyrim would be sabre cats.. which can easily run you down.

In skyrim they are fast if you dont use sprint all the time.

Trolls are Trolls and we all fear them.

you must be using somekind of overhaul mod in Oblivion, Because the trolls I remember died after a few quick stabs to the gut

You couldn't come across trolls at low levels in Oblivion unless you're using a mod that disables the level scaling.

Trolls appear at level 6, which is a relatively low level. And Im using a steel shortsword with the slider about 55%... I play like this so I dont go round one shotting everything. I like fights to be challenging. Knowing I will defeat every enemy I come across makes the game too boring.

I played at the bar at roughly 66%, and trolls were not as difficult as you seem to be implying

The Trolls in Oblivion were only deadly if you had low offensive skills and iron weapons. Otherwise, they die in like 2 power attacks. Fire spells(even the weakest one) destroyed them.

Though I will agree that the Trolls in Skyrim were a little too clumsy. But they are easily more durable, but their health doesn't regen as fast.

They start spawning "normally" at level 8. Level 6 as "bosses"

Well what do you do in Skyrim? I've heard enough people complaining about the frost trolls in Skyrim that they obviously didn't think it was easy.

/fire mage, who always finds trolls easy targets

Frost trolls are NO cakewalk in Skyrim till you really pack on some levels, I hate the critters. After learning the nuances of combat though I don't fear them anymore. After all they're not giants. They are REALLY the ones to worry about.

I don't know... as stated here, Trolls in OB were faster and had faster health regen, but in Skyrim they are much more durable. Granted, if you have fire spells or a fire enchanted weapon, both are easy to kill. I guess each has his strengths and weakness. Savage Ogres though, those were a [censored] to kill.

I feel they're about the same with only some minor differences. Both trolls from both games proved a challenge at lower levels (damn those painted trolls who paints trolls anyway?).

This. Multiple ogres at once could sometimes be very troublesome.

Very much this. They wore my armor and weapons out when I went through Pale Pass. I started picking up Akaviri Katanas along the way to save my sword and kept my remaining couple of hammers just for my armor. This when I was near the end and I had packed quite a few hammers before I went on that quest.

It was Rythe who painted the trolls. I got to say Troll in both games were great but I like skyrim's trolls a bit more.

Trolls in Skyrim do not regenerate health slowly unlike the ones in Oblivion.

Oblivion's trolls were nothing, save for a few special types (like the painted ones or the ones that hung around a certain Ayleid ruin). Skyrim's frost trolls are way worse.

Is this a joke? Because that's what trolls were in Oblivion.

I have to disagree completely with the OP, Trolls are a much more different animal in Skyrim then Oblivion. Trolls are definitely something to be feared at low levels in Skyrim, with the exception of a mage that has Firebolt, as that will completely destroy a Frost Troll provided you have enough magicka.

Already know that. I only wonder why he would add that to the painting though.

Painted Trolls are a PITA, however I blame that more on the Scaling of Oblivion then anything else.

Rythe did not paint the trolls, the thief did after he went into the painting. He hoped to use them as guards so that he could stay there in an impregnable fortress. Unfortunately the trolls turned on the thief and killed him. Rythe went in after the brush but couldn't get to it because of the trolls so we had to kill them in order for us to get out.
