Trophies confirmed for Skyrim?

Since when does a looser get trophies? :ermm:

Hmm, I guess that means you're unaware of the trend in children's sports to give everyone trophies? Not just the first, second and third places?

I always thought you have to win something in order to get one.
Since the early 90's.

eh, it doesnt really matter to me. its up to you bethesda if you want skyrim trophy accomplishments for the ps3

Do they really have the choice? Trophies are mandatory now. Unless the rule lifts.. I'll admit if it does I'll be a tiny bit happier

I dunno.
Even when I went to Judo competitions when I was a kid (about 15 years ago), only top 3 got a medal/trophy.
Giving away trophies just like that is just... stupid. >.>

You can't release a Ps3 game without trophies now, they will 100%, undoubtedly, irrefutably be in the Ps3 version of the game.

Not to derail the thread, but...

Some people had the idea that it would be harmful for a child's self-esteem and whatnot if they gave trophies to some and not others. And you can't make a child feel bad. It might scar them for life. So they'd give trophies to everyone.

That kind of "logic" is probably scaring them worse than no trophy. Biology is competitive.

Reminds me of the 'Harrison Bergeron' short story.

Oh, I agree. It's a stupid idea. But then, if there's one thing there's no shortage of it's stupid ideas.

Erm... WHAT?
What kinda idiocy is that?
I mean, whenever I lost something when I was a kid, I it only motivated me to do better next time.
Thanks to that, I used to beat chess master 5000 (it was the newest one at that time) on hardest setting without any problem.
Why don't we all get passing grades in school so it doesn't ruin our self-esteem? >.>
What actually pissed me out the most when I was a kid was when someone went easy on me and allowed me to win.

On topic:
I don't care about trophies now. >_>

Actually, studies have shown that giving grades is a bad idea and that in elementary school, they don't actually tell you anything useful.

They just finished running the Ididarod here and the last one in gets the red lantern. Of course those finishing just before got nothing but the experience.

Trophies are fun for some and not so fun for others. I have trophies for winning pool tournaments and trap shooting in my basemant all boxed up. Can't get rid of them because I'm rather proud of them but don't really want them displayed either. Now I shoot for turkeys and hams and other prizes like a new gun.

They just add a fun element to the game, something to strive for. I don't really care if they are available or not but I sure don't think wanting them is a bad thing either.

So, if I understand this correctly, besides blocking the posibility of moding, now Sony forces game companies to give trophies to players in all games that will sell for ps3? simply lovelly.

Yeah, I know about that.
I think that Sweden has no-grade system until you reach 13(?) and start giving grades after that, witch is good actually since grades at that point don't tell you anything about the kid.
Still, in that system there are no 'trophies' at all so you don't feel you won something even though you shouldn't because you did nothing.

There still isn't any official word on them from Bethesda. That makes them unconfirmed.

That means Achievements are unconfirmed as well.

Don't forget that Microsoft doesn't allow game mods on the 360 and they also force developers to include Achievements as well. Not just Sony.

Were trophies the things the player got in Dragon Age, when the player finished a particular quest or something?

Yeah, I really don't care about those.

I knew the part of both console making companies baning moding, the part of forcing trophies is something that I had learned today. I must say both companies are so cuddly and charming.

So is there a minimum number of trophies mandated by Sony & MS ?
Could an irritated developer just include one at the end saying, "congratulations, you won :P"?

(Or add one at the beginning that says, "You picked up a rock! :trophy: :goodjob: ")

The problem I see with this, is that after this 'misbehave', MS & sony will be the judges in the subsecuent 'trail'. If they state something as a requirement to make business with them and another company offends them instead, they won't make more business with that company.

So are trophies and achievements some sort of boobie prize, because consoles don't have mods?

IMO, it's a bad trend to put these in RPGs.

I'm pretty sure they'll be an achievement/trophy for how many dragons you kill or if your able to kill all the Dragons.

Pretty much. Earlier console games made use of unlockables to increase replayability. Finish the game by doing this, and you unlock that. Then you have to play through a second time to make use of what you unlocked.

Now it's evolved into trophies and achievements. Now people keep playing or replaying the game until they can get all of the trophies or achievements. Of course, those people aren't playing the game to play the game, anymore. They're playing to get achievements.
