Trouble Accessing meshes/textures

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 10:30 pm

Hi all!

I just got Oblivion for the PC a few days ago, and would like to get cracking on using the Construction Set. I'm in the process of figuring everything out, and I've found that I can't access any .nif files from Vanilla Oblivion. I can access all the .nif files from OOO (great mod, btw), but none of the ones native to Oblivion proper.

In my data directory, I have a .bsa file marked "Oblivion-Textures-Compressed". I cannot extract it, with the error being "cannot open [this file] as an archive."

Any suggestions on how I can access these .nif files?

Thanks in advance!

Install Oblivion Mod Manager. It has a utility that will allow you to browse, extract, and create BSA Archives.

Thanks! I just downloaded OBMM, and I'm getting acquainted with it. Will I have to recompress the files I extract for them to appear in the game?

No need to re-compress, just follow the basic directory structure eg. oblivion\data\meshes or oblivion\data\textures.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36370 enables you to assign assets within BSA's without extracting them. It has a host of other improvements/features as well.
