Trouble finding Dragon elder scroll

PS4

Hi I am trying to do the dawn guard content as vampire hunter.

I was following help from the wiki http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim%3ASeeking_Disclosure

I got confused. I completed the Tower of Mzark in the black reach and it was part of a quest with Septimund and in the Tower of Mzark I decoded something for Septimund and then had to get blood of 5 mer races. Did that and the Daedra killed Septimund and I got 5 points for all of one category of skills. But I never got the Dragon elder scroll. I did get the blood elder scroll in the soul cairn.

So the quest of septimund says there can be a bug where if you already have the reward for the septimund quest (with the 5 blood) then you cannot get the Dragon elder scroll. But I went in an old save game into Mzurek tower and I don't find a quest marker. The quest marker says to decode Septimunds thing in the ancient machinery. This is an old save game. But no quest marker to find the Dragon elder scroll.

So the wiki is saying that the Dragon elder scroll is in the Tower of Mzark in the black reach. Is that right? And I have lost 8 levels going back to old saves. I have a save right before turning in the Septimund quest. But the basic problem is that I don't know where the Dragon elder scroll is. I get no quest markers. edit and if I don't get past this bug I don't think I can do the main quest either. I really don't want to restart or go backwards 8 levels.

Edit: link to more info from wiki http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Elder_Knowledge%C2%A0

But I never did get the dragon elder scroll. Just got something or other for Septimund

Edit: and from that last link looks like that due to the bug I will have to go back 8 levels from 40 to 32. But I still don't understand what I did wrong in the Tower of Mzark. I used the machine and was able to complete the quest with Septimund. But didn't see the elder scroll.

Edit: and i definitely have not talked to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Paarthurnax_(dragon) I want to do Dawnguard first and not main quest. I don't understand this.

That is basically easy, but I'm not sure I can explain it properly.

Septimus did give you an empty lexicon to fill. With this, you did go to the Tower of Mzark and did fill the lexicon by solving this small puzzle with the lenses.

Yourself did post this link: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Elder_Knowledge

In the fist picture, there is the object I mean.

Inside this object lies the elder scroll. At the moment, the lexicon is written, the object opens with the elder scroll for you.

If you did not pick it up in the first place, I should be still there, waiting for you.

Thank you and I was pleasantly surprised that the Dragon elder scroll was still sitting in its resting place even though I had already turned in the quest with the cube for Septimund. The problem I had in the first place was that I did not notice that there were two things for me to pick up. I picked up the cube that had been changed somehow for the quest with Septimund but I did not know that the elder scroll was sitting right there for the taking in the middle of the machine. Luckily I was able to go and pick it up again even at my highest save as a level 40. I did not have to go back to level 32 which I am really happy about! Thanks!

Or you can also do that mission the other way around if you don't like dealing with Hermaeus Mora. Pick up the scroll and leave the cube in its fixture. Yeah, it leaves a quest unfinished but that's how much I love to hate Mora
