I just got a pair of wireless speakers to use as rear channel speakers for my computer. The setup is quadraphonic (4.0). I have them set up correctly and working fine with an OpenAL-enabled game of mine, but not with Oblivion. The thing is, about a year ago, I had quadraphonic speakers, and I eventually got that setup to work with Oblivion when I had Windows Vista. I recently got Windows 7, and now that I have surround sound again, I'm trying to remember exactly what I did to get it all working with Vista, because it isn't working now. I definitely downloaded and used Realtek 3D SoundBack to make it work with Morrowind and Oblivion. I tried that now, and ran it in Windows Vista compatibility mode (and as administrator) because it wouldn't start otherwise, and enabled it for Oblivion. I was able to start the game and load a save file (and the title music played through all four speakers), but when it finished loading the save, it just froze on a black screen, although with music playing through all speakers and also the sound of wind blowing audible in all speakers.
I have audio sample rate set to the highest quality, and I did try lowering that to the default. Someone on a different forum suggested disabling speaker fill and setting the environment to "room", and I think that might have been the fix before, but it didn't change anything now. I have Realtek onboard sound, although the last time I used 3D SoundBack was on a different motherboard. I also tried setting Oblivion to Windows Vista and Windows XP compatibility modes. Any assistance would be appreciated.
