True to Caesar

A Legion RP

A/N: I will tell you up front that I haven't RP'd before, but I think I'm up to the task. I've posted several fan-fics on this site, and have read several of the RPs that have been posted. If this RP doesn't get off the ground, I'll probably turn it into a fan-fic eventually. . .but I hope that's not how it turns out. . .

Concept

This RP is unlike most other RPs. It has a set story arc with a preconceived beginning, middle, and end. It takes place in 2275, two years before Fallout New Vegas, and one year after the first battle for the Hoover Dam. It will be relatively short and action oriented.

The RP will begin at Caesar's Fort and end with Camp Searchlight's destruction. All RP'ers will be in my contubernia (my squad) and under my command as centurion.

Our contubernia - Contubernia XXIV - is new, comprised of the remnants of several other contubernia which were decimated on the order of Caesar himself for cowardice in battle. Since our unit is new, we do not yet know each other. Completing our mission - the destruction of Camp Searchlight - will be our only chance to avoid crucifixion and to have our legionary honor restored.

Rules

(1) We are legionaries and the legion is an all male army. All characters must be male.

(2) All characters must have either a tribal or a purely legionary background. Your tribe can be cannon (Blackfoot, Hide-bark, Kaibabs) or non-cannon.

(3) Chem use is strictly prohibited. Only bitter drinks, healing powders, and herbal remedies will be tolerated. Similarly, only legion weapons (spears, power fists, salvaged NCR carbines) will be allowed.

(4) Your character can have whatever first name he wants, but must have a Greco-Roman last name (Decibus, Calate, Knoss) which was given to him upon becoming a fully-fledged legionary.

(5) I am centurion. You must obey all of my orders, but my orders will be open ended (example: secure Nelson). How you choose to carry out my orders is up to you.

(6) All posts must be at least four paragraphs in length.

(7) No less than four characters and no more than eight characters will be allowed.

Roles / Ranks

(1) Centurion: Me.

(2) Decanus: My second-in-command.

(3) Legionary Prime: Specialist. Can use heavy weapons / explosives. Sapper - can disarm traps and mines.

(4) Vexillarius: Heavily armored, melee shock troop.

(5) Explorer: Lightly armored, nimble scout.

(6) Legionary Recruit: medium armor / medium range, standard soldier.

Setup and Structure

In order to keep the plot cohesive, and keep everything moving along smoothly, we are going to stick to a predetermined structure. This may seem usual for a RP but I think it will help us stay focused.

The structure will be a "mission" structure. By PM, I will tell you what needs to be done for each "mission" and you will decide how to do it. A mission could be anywhere from six to two-dozen or so posts.

As an example, our first mission will be for everyone to introduce their character by writing a post about them lingering around Caesar's Fort. I will then gather up your characters and assemble our contubernia one-by-one.

Character Sheet

Here is my character sheet. Please use it as a model.

Name: Anthony Lethe

Rank: Centurion

Physical Description: 5'10. Brown hair, brown eyes. Olive colored, ashy skin. Medium build. Has a large scar which bisects his lips from a fight in the arena. Walks with a slight limp from grenade shrapnel embedded in his left thigh.

Armament: Standard silver and red legionary armor, with a red, hairy deathclaw-crested centurion's helmet.

Equipment: Marksman carbine, machete, binoculars, two frag grenades, one bitter drink, one healing powder.

Skills: None / Commander.

Back-story / Personality:

Anthony Lethe was a member of the Blackfoot tribe. He was barely a teenager when Caesar transformed the tribe into the nucleus of the legion. He is a quiet man with little patience and an acerbic wit. He is prone to fits of rage, but abhors unnecessary violence, and is generally considered a model legionary by his peers.

Lethe was a decanus fighting a slave insurrection in Two-Sun (Tucson) during the first battle over the Hoover Dam. He was ordered to the Mojave after the battle to take command of a newly formed, penal contubernia - Contubernia XXIV.

Privately, Lethe suffers from recurring nightmares and tremors. He believes that these nightmares are the result of a curse, put on him by his childhood love, a girl from the Twisted Hair tribe named "Morning Flower." Lethe used to sneak away from his native Blackfoot tribe to spend time with Morning Flower when they were children. When Lethe turned thirteen, Caesar gained power, and saw to it that the Twisted Hair tribe was annihilated by force.

After her tribe's destruction, Morning Flower sought out Lethe, believing that he and his family would take her in and protect her from Caesar's wrath. Enamored by Caesar's charisma, and wishing to join his newly formed legion, Lethe shunned Morning Flower, forcing her to wander the wasteland as a drifter, alone.

To this day, Lethe is haunted by the memory of Morning Flower. His regret for turning her away continues to eat at his soul.

Okay, so if you'd be interested in taking part in this role play, let me know by posting below.

I realize Thanksgiving is coming up (if you live in the USA) so this won't get off the ground for a week or so, but I'm curious if there's interest in doing this, so please post.

Name: Nathan Octavian

Rank: Decanus

Physical Description: 6' 3. Broad shouldered and barrel chested. Black hair kept short, clean shaven. Thick wirey hair covers his forarms.

Armament: Standard silver and red legionary armor.

Equipment: Power fist, machete, one bitter drink, one healing powder. 3 spears.

Skills: Knowledge of Roman history and practace.

Back-story / Personality: Nathan is a pureborn Legion trooper. His father served in one of Caesar's favored legions, the 10th. Nathan learned to read and write, tutored by his mother. He excelled in most classes, but really threw himself into the study of the ancient roman civilization the leigeon is based upon.

He is a loud, aggressive man. Quick tempered and prone to making examples of those that cross him.

He was Decanus before his contubernia was decimated and hopes to be given this role again. He is well suited to this role as he lacks the imagination to formulate plans of attack, but his unswerving loyalty means he will always ensure that orders are carried out.

TheKettleison, very cool. You’re accepted. You can be decanus, but I’ll officially bestow that rank to you when I first meet you in the RP.

Still need 2-3 other legionaries. Any takers?

EDITED
I'll post the full CS later maybe, I an in two other RP's after all, but if I join I officially lock the name Hector Mercury. :hubbahubba:

Constructive criticism would be lower the paragraph limit to three and maybe even two full ones, only because most people have others things to do besides devote themselves completely to an RP, so unless you have no problem with a slow moving RP, shortening the minimum length requirements--in my eyes--would be the smartest decision. But I do see that you plan to really go hard on this...and for that effort and willingness I commend you.

Here is my sign up :)

Name: Caius Antonius Pius

Rank: Explorer

Physical Description: 6/2. Is not that muscular, but is very fast. Is Caucasian with a slight stubble. His hair is short and well trimmed.

Armament: Normal Explorer Armor.

Equipment: Binoculars, and some stimpacks that he hides from the Centurian. Keeps some Antivenom and healing Power. Carries a Service Rifle

Skills: Is fast. Can lockpick really well and has a knack for healing. Is an expert interrogator.

Back-story / Personality:

Caius was a member of the (fictional) Ilwat Tribe in Colorado. He was happily married when Caesar's Legion came in. They enslaved all the woman (including his wife) and forced him to be in the army.

Caius eventually found and tried to free his wife. He was cought, but the Centurian was impressed with his bravery. Together, they both found a loophole: you could take any woman as a slave; even a former wife. So Caius took his wife Ann as a slave. This is a secret only known to Caius and that Centurian, who later died in the First Battle of Hoover Dam.

Caius is easy to anger and kills any enemy he can find. He is an expert at interogation. If you mess with him, you will die, unless you are a Legionaire of course.

OOC: What the heck. This is quite interesting.

Name: Decimus Magnus

Rank: Legionary Prime

Physical Description: 5' 9'' not tanned but not pale either. Doesn't look very muscular. Asian, no facial hair and fairly short hair, well trimmed as well.

Armament: Standard silver and red Legionary Armor and a gray bandanna with three Deathclaw teeth attached to it.

Equipment: Trail Carbine, silenced pistol, and a slightly long machete, almost like a sword. Some tribal healing powder, anti-venom, and a single spear used as a short range melee weapon.

Skills: Clever and brutally efficient with sabotage and mid to short range combat.

Back-story / Personality:

Decimus, original name "Aiden", was born in the North West. Specifically, Pre-War Washington State, Tacoma. The frigid snow and his tribe's very warlord like nature toughened him up until he turned 16, when he ran with his future "companion" way down south to escape the frigid cold, which was consuming all of Tacoma and the city of New Seattle refused to share electricity with the dying war tribe.

When he arrived down south, he and his "companion" were taken in by Caesar's Legion. Decimus' fiance was taken in as a slave, doing heavy work such as shoveling and taming the wild dogs. Decimus was put in the arena to be "tested" and after a quite brutal massacre by Decimus using only a spear and machete, he was taken in as an "honorary" legion soldier while his fiance, Evelyn, was given much easier tasks like cooking and making healing powders.

Decimus is brutal but very efficient. He never kills without either a direct order by the Centurion or if it's a tactical choice. He knows how to control his anger but it breaks if another Legionary tries to hit Evelyn. A strategist at heart but always submits to his Centurion. Fascinated by ancient Spartan War Doctrines and Sun Tzu's Art of War.

Name: Joel Calate

Rank: Legionary Prime (Sapper)

Physical Description: 6' 3'', Caucasian, short light brown hair that is slightly wavy, Average build and blue eyes. 20 years old.

Armament: Standard silver and red Legionary Armor and a necklace with a pre-war coin.

Equipment: Machete, two throwing knives, healing powder, Assult Carbine, 2 Frag Mines and antivenom.

Skills: Joel is a sapper, so obviously can disarm mines and traps. Good in mid-short range combat, smart.

Back-story / Personality:
Joel comes from a full fledge legionary background. HIs father was killed during the First Battle of Hoover Dam. When he was 14, he was fond of a slave girl, before she was crucified. He was beaten by his father to "get over it". His father was brutal and never showed his son much love, which made his son a hard, cold man. When his fathere died, he said "Good Riddance!" Not caring at all by his father death.

Joel is quiet and patient. He does his job without question, He is disiplined and respectful, but he gets annoyed easily. Although loyal, Joel sometimes questions the orders given, though, not out loud. Joel doesn't like to eat 200 year old food and would only have fresh ingredients. Joel likes to keep educated and constantly reads and writes. He doesn't kill without reason or order. Though he doesn't like being angry, beware when he is. Joel can become violent and such.

@ Ant1iv3

I see what you're saying regarding the paragraph minimum, but I'll stick to it for now and see how it goes. I do plan for this RP to be slightly slower paced with well thought out posts.

I'll leave an open spot on the contubernia for you, but if someone else grabs it its gone.

@ alex man142

You're approved. . .but I'm curious how you have "some" binoculars :)

Also, don't let my character catch you with those stimpacks. . .

@ DarkZerker

You're approved. Nice back-story.

You can be the official Vexillarius of our contubernia if you want.

@ Schmuty Buncis

You're approved.

How about you be our unofficial "cook" b/c of your picky eating?

(*****************************)

Approved Characters:

Anthony Lethe - Centurion - SentientSurfer

Nathan Octavian - Decanus (CQC Specialist) - Thekettleison

Caius Antonius Pius - Explorer (Scout) - alex man142

Decimus Magnus - Legionary Prime (Fire Support) - DarkZerker

Joel Calate - Legionary Prime (Sapper) - Schmuty Buncis

(*******************************)

I'll leave one spot open for anyone that's interested, although honestly I'm okay with the amount of people we have - I don't want this to get unwieldy.

The RP won't start until after Thanksgiving (Thursday for those not in the know). I'll kick it off.

If you guys want to think about your 1st post, here's a guide:

(1) We're all in Caesar's fort on fortification hill. We haven't met each other yet. The fort appears to us, as it appears in game in NV (don't mess with cannon).

(2) For your 1st post, describe what your character is doing at the fort before we meet. Try to make it meaningful for your character. This is your "scene." If this was a movie, during the middle of your scene, your name would appear on the screen in big, gold letters (like in "Snatch"). Characterize yourself - get it?

Examples: If you're a muscle-bound bruiser, maybe you're fighting in the arena. If you're scrawny but clever, maybe you're watching a fight in the arena and making bets on the outcome. If you love to cook, maybe you're skinning and then sautéing a squirrel - get the idea?

At the end of your post, my aide is going to approach you and tell you to report to the fort's outer gate the next day at sun-up. That is where our contubernia will form up for the first time.

P.S.: Happy Turkey Day.

Well now...looks like I'm just in time.

Name: Herman "Hermes" Cassius (I like this more).

Rank: Explorer (or do you need a Legionary Recruit?)

Physical Description: 5'11, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, caramel/olive skin. Skinny but lean. Has three lines that run across his right cheek and shoulder (from one slash).

Armament: military red bandana, light carbon steel cuirass, greaves, gardbraces, and vambraces. A long sleeve red undershirt and pants http://getasword.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/medieval-knight-armor.jpg

Equipment: Bow and x25 Arrows (I'd like to swap this for a crossbow, but I don't know if you'll allow this), .9mm pistol, nectar (just water and medical preservatives...health), and tomahawk.

Skills: Knows how to skin an animal, knows how to run very fast. An animal person (some animals won't attack and can even be tamed in some cases).

Back-story / Personality:

Herman Cassius was once a member of the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Beastlords tribe, granting him his uncanny ability to neutralize and even tame many beasts. These beasts include radroaches, boatflies, giant lizards, brahmins, dogs, radscorpions, ants, and mole rats.

Though the Beastlords originated in around the late 2100's, their bloodline lived on as the last few remaining survived underground and kept up their practice. Some descendants were granted the full psychic ability while others were only taught the kills of taming animals, Herman's was on the fence, as he possesses no psychic ability, but at the same time animals don't attack him. In other words he is able to safely neutralize the attack on any enemies, but not control them. Animals simply don't regard him unless he approaches them directly.

As a child he was never a cannibal, as the first tribesman were, but he fed on the flesh of the animals he could capture. Soon though, at the age of six, his tribe was attacked by another tribe, the Peoria for being thought of as their cannibalistic evil forefathers. He fled with his father, while his mother and sister were killed in the raid. They traveled south-west in search on any hospitable civilization, slowly putting aside their old culture and lives for the more survival centered, sociable wasteland lifestyle. IN their travels, they both learned to read and write, talk like average wastelanders, and by the time they reached Arizona, where him father was killed while trekking the Grand Canyon, there was no trace of his pastime, besides the knowledge of who he once was.

He entered New Vegas a new man, and made a living outside on the borderlands of the strip before joining Caesar's Legion, not finding anything more productive to spend his life doing. He also find the lore and culture of the tribe to be quite interesting, which is why he serves under their command, always ready to explore new things. He has been under the command of Legion for a while, and has made a name for himself, Hermes, after the Roman messenger God. It originated as a practical joke given by the fellow Roman enthusiast for him always relaying messages back when he had no role, but now he is known for his speed in the field.

@Ant1iv3

You’re approved on two conditions:

1) You’re a legionary recruit (seems more realistic considering your back-story).

2) You cannot be immune to all animal attacks. Cazadores, radscorpions, lakelurks, and death claws (abominations) will attack you on sight. Mole rats, dogs, coyotes, radroaches, ants, and bloatflies will not.

Final Approved Characters:

Anthony Lethe - Centurion - SentientSurfer

Nathan Octavian - Decanus (CQC Specialist) - Thekettleison

Caius Antonius Pius - Explorer (Scout) - alex man142

Decimus Magnus - Legionary Prime (Fire Support) - DarkZerker

Joel Calate - Legionary Prime (Sapper) - Schmuty Buncis

Herman Hermes Cassius – Legionary Recruit (hunter / survivalist) – Ant1iv3

-And –

Tyler Shaw – NCR Corporal (rifleman) - Wasteland Scholar 4

Wasteland Scholar suggested the idea that he be allowed to play our opposition to keep things interesting and unexpected. He will be one of our enemies. His character sheet is below:

Name: Tyler Shaw

Rank: Corporal

Physical Description: 5'10 Caucasian, age 20. A man of medium build who is often coated in sand. He wears glasses that he protects with his life due to the scarcity of replacements.

Armament: NCR Face Wrap Armor with a personally reinforced chest plating for extra protection.

Equipment: Well-maintained Service Rifle, 9mm pistol, combat knife, and an emergency stimpack.

Skills: Trigger Discipline from practicing on wasteland critters. And decent repair skills.

Back-story / Personality:

Born and raised in New Adytum, Tyler has always felt a debt of gratitude to the NCR. He is the first of his family to join the service and is currently in the army to support his family after the death of his father. He hopes that by the end of his third tour of duty his family will be back on its feet and he can use whatever money is leftover to invest in an abandoned factory in the Boneyard to start a salvage company.

Unfortunately, the Legion has put a stop to that little plan. Though his first tour of duty was relatively quiet, one week into the second tour his unit was sent to Camp Forlorn Hope in response to increased Legion activity. On his first serious combat mission, Tyler's entire unit was wiped out. Now Tyler hopes to put some distance between himself and the fighting so he can have some time to recover.

(**************************)

Okay, so all of our characters are locked. I will post the RP thread fri/sat. After that, we each post once – our post in fortification hill (I will PM you with final instructions). Wasteland Scholar will mirror our posts from Camp Forlorn Hope.

NCR delenda est!

Good luck. . .

Name: Julian Merryweather.

Rank: Frumentarii. (Spy and Ambassador.)

Physical Description: Six feet, thin, brown eyes, short black hair. No physical scars.

Armament: Standard silver and red legionary armor.

Equipment: Suit when dealing with other civilizations. Otherwise standard Legion armour and a machete.

Skills: Deception, Persuasion, Lockpicking skills.

Back-story / Personality: Julian was originally from the Blue Flame tribe, which was annexed by Legion shortly after the conquest of Painted Rock tribe. Julian showed his skills by sneaking into Caesar's camp and trying to assassinate him. He succeeded until he was just outside Ceasar's tent, when a Praetorian saw him. Recognising Julian's skills, Caesar chose not to execute him but make him part of the Frumentarii- the Legion's spies and ambassadors. He has risen to be the Head Frumentarii and therefore the most powerful. He doesn't actually accept the Legion of believe it's philosophies, but he is more a ruthless pragmatist than a villain. He has doubts about the Legion.

@SharonHorste

The RP is full for now. I haven’t run one before so I don’t want to get in over my head. If someone drops out, or if I feel like I can handle another person, I’ll PM you to see if you’re still interested.

Sorry.
