Trueflame Replacer

Post » Thu Aug 26, 2010 8:24 am

I wasn't, but to animate the flame this way is a possibility. I'm referring to a different effect that does allow looping animations on a billboarded plane. I know it's possible because I've done it - it's bloody frustrating knowing that it can be done and not remembering how.

I deleted the majority of my files when I separated from my partner - I have a handfull of unreleased weapons with what could be described as 'test' effects unfortuntately the flame effect with looping anims is not one of them. I've been scouring through my salvaged max scenes and appears that that one is dead and buried along with many others.

 :shakehead: You artists and your tempermental hissy fits... :biglaugh: I hope you can figure it out again, though. I really want this mod.

You didn't happen to send it to me, among others? If so, I might still have it saved on my old computer (though it will help telling me its name).

Well, it'd be awesome if you could figure out what you did, Phijama - but in the mean time I'm still trying to figure out particles, just in case.

Blender is frustrating sometimes.

Welll if it comes to it I can do particles. It may be possible to animate the emitter or gravity warp so it rotates a little for thr 3rd person view so the warping effect is less pronounced.

I was thinking of spacing several emitters along the blade that all point up, and therefore are less subject to distortion than just one curved path.

That's a thought, the emitters would have to be closer at the points where the stream tapers otherwise it may 'bubble'. very good idea actually!

I experimented with this technique long ago. After Particle Arrow Replacer I was wanting to do another for the other various weapons; the "distortion" turned me away from the project, though. I looked up the old 3dsmax files recently and dug up the test file. I had a Silver Longsword with six emitters set along the length of the blade. In the game testing with an Imperial, the particles were still distorted slightly. Towards the end of each particle stream they started to aim inwards about twenty degrees and forwards about ten. Still looked far better if it had only one stream however.

If you go this route, you might need to test with double what I had for the Silver Longsword to remove most of the distorted look.

I figured it'd distort a little, but at least the flame effect would conform to the blade itself instead of floating in space.

The problem I see with gravity warps is that while it may help remedy the distortion of the particles when playing certain races (height/weight set to something else other than 1), it would adversely effect the particles when playing a race that has their height/weight set to 1

That model would look awesome as a Deadric weapon, you could make a Deadric Scimitar.

I can't believe this hasn't been bumped since July. As Arklon once said: "This is too pretty to die!"

I agree. The latest version of the Morrowind Code Patch fixes the particle effects bug - does this help at all?

By "particle effects bug" do you mean "the problem with Hopesfire and Trueflame where the particles go off the wrong direction for characters whose height and weight are not both set to 1.00?" If yes, then it does help quite a bit.

Here's what the MCP thread says about it:

"- Particle fixes. Corrects particles peeling away from weapons and projectiles."

So I'm guessing that that's a yes, Plangkye.

Well then I'll give it a shot. It'd be great to actually be able to release this thing!

EDIT: I transplanted the flame from the original Trueflame onto the new one, but the change in blade shape makes it no longer fit (http://i25.tinypic.com/rri8sp.jpg). Hopesfire's flame is a better shape, but it points off in the wrong direction - does anyone know anything about adjusting particle sprays in Nifskope such that I might either re-point the Hopesfire flame or vertically compress the Trueflame flame such that either will fit?

So, did you ever construct a Hopesfire model? If so, any screenshots to pass around?

If you believe in souls, I would just like you to know that yours is full of win. It's over 9000.

Hmmm... two obscure internet memes in one comment? Unlikely, but it just happened, bam.

Seriously though, Plangkye, you rock. You should know that you are good at what you do, and are loved by this community for allowing us to experience your talents.

Thanks, but are "full of win" and "over 9000" REALLY that obscure? :P

seriously though that is really nice to hear!

It looks really cool and awesome. I'm glad that this is still alive, kinda.

Thanks for all the work you've put into this and all your other mods. It's all very good.

Yeah is than any progress on this? cause it would be a shame for this sword to never make its appearance in morrowind.

And I must say not only is that the most awesome looking replacer for trueflame, its also the coolest looking sword I've seen, if this replacer ever makes it to release I'll finally have a reason to play the main quest. :twirl:
