A truly original idea

I like this. As long as it's an option.

But what if you...Well, you know...Dream of the female Nord next door? ;)

I do want to see dream sequences, but I'd much rather they be completely scripted MQ events that only happen to announce a few significant developments in the story á la Morrowind (but interactive).

Because this sandbox has no repercussions, whatsoever... dont want to go to jail, only slay people in a dream sequence... it gives the person a chance to deviate without affecting the core gameplay.... oh! OOOOH good idea!
jailbreak dream sequence!!!!

You think is a good idea, I am sure. Already someone else stated, if you want to deviate from the core game, save, go on a hack'n'slash bender, then when you are done, reload your previous save and all is good.

You also think is a "truly original" idea, which it isn't.

That's all you have to say? lol

Good luck.

Well not sure what more to say, it doesnt detract, its totally optional and is a great addition to the game.

Because of those, the argument against it holds about as much water as a poorly patched colovian fur helm.

which grievences with it did i not adress?

1. gets boring

No, its a rare event that is completely optional

2. Its a waste of game play time

No, its a rare event that is completely optional

3. I dont want to have to press a button to decline dreaming each time i sleep.

No, Its a rare event, of which can be fully disabled if desired.

4. Dev's have better things to do.

Thats their decision, this isn't just your game, this is their game. And soon many people will be playing it, If a dev comes in here and says "This idea wont work, its a waste of time" Then i will stop and concede.

5. It doesnt fit with the game

On the contrary it does, it takes place within the game, does not break immersion and can act is a rare, fun minigame.

6. Its pointless

Only as pointless as playing video games themselves. The object of the game is to have fun and enjoy it.. if its fun then it accomplishes its goal. There can also be a small reward, not game altering but minimally beneficial.

Did i miss any?

I really like the idea of the dreaming thing but I feel closer to the opinion of having them as part of a quest. I really liked the idea of some kind of magic creature or something lurkiing into our dreams.

Great post and BTW there are some people who are obsessed with being productive... If the dream is fun I don't care if it's going to be important later on. If you are really so obsessed with being productive RPG are not for you and you should like go outside and do something productive xD

Dreams sound awesome and I think the devs would like it. It would give them the chance to be creative and would have some awesome updates. However vampire dreams would scare the [censored] out of me.

Hate to be the cynic here, sorry it's in my blood, but to respond to the thread title, there is no thing as a truly original idea.

Small random chance: yes.

Option to turn it off or on (anywhere...at all): no.

We don't have the option of not being able to sleep while enemies are around us. We don't have the option of killing guards without a bounty on our head. We don't have the option to turn off bounties. We don't have the option to turn off gravity. It should be a solid yes or no to a small random chance...not an option. Dreams would be cool though. First time I actually though about it.

I do not think it is original. But it could happen. Maybe for a few quests too (like in Oblivion).

I like the Valhalla clue thing
but "people" will disagree with this idea because it's against the lore.

Make it happen whenever you sleep to level up. Make players work for those levels dammit.

Well it's certainly a unique concept, and quite an interesting read. I find myself indifferent to the idea of these random dream sequences, I'm neither for or against them. However this did get me thinking about dream quests like the one with the Mage Henentier from Bravil in Oblivion. I'd like to see a few unique quests that require you to enter your dreams to unlock a power or knowledge hidden away in your mind.

I really like this idea. Could be a nice break in the game if it was entertaining enough. It's also a great way to bring Vaermina into the game in a fun entertaining way. With radiant story doing what they described, it may not require more then a days work if they just reuse a map.

Nah, I think this would be too much work for devo's with not enough return. I mean, why not just fast travel to a dungeon, put on random stuff and walk in? Pretty close to the same thing in my opinion...

Why leave it to the modders? what about those on the consoles? Bethesda can TOTALLY take this and run with it in some amazing directions!

Actually, I believe Bethesda in a recent interview had talked about trying to get mods available on consoles, I don't remember which one, I wanna say the GameTrailers.com though I could be wrong. I could've sworn it was mentioned in an interview somewhere if not that one.

As for this idea as a whole, I don't think this would be necessarily excluded considering they've done unique things like this before, like in Oblivion a quest involving entering into a painting and it's mystical world, as well as entering into a dream world for another quest. So this isn't exactly new territory for them. As far as it being quite expansive as you make it seem it should be, I don't think that'll happen without mods of course. I do think this is a great idea and has potential for so much, in fact I may want to try and make something along these lines when I try out their mod tools that come with the game.

It would be rather pointless if you didnt get anything out of it and a waste of space. I dont need a mini game of the actual game inside the game that doesnt do anything. Most optional stuff has some point to somebody but this is too niche IMO.
