Trying to come up with a good name for a fictional drug

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 7:04 pm

Of course it was already taken. Just like Ambrosia. They're both old mythical things. :P

Or you mean someone used it as a fictional drug already?

Heh, I knew that :P Yeah, I meant it had been used as a fictional drug.

Turns out something else already took that. Saw it on Wikipedia. I like "Blue Rain" a lot, but it sounds awfully familiar...

I just made it up, I haven't heard of it before but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in some song lyrics, sounds as though it could be.

Oh! How about Midas. You know, the guy who wished to turn everything he touched into gold? It's got all kinds of implications for the drug! It's like "Oh hey, this is great" and then afterwards there's that downfall and you wish you never did it, but you're stuck with it and you have no choice but to keep doing it.

And a "Midas Touch" could be how they describe the addiction to the drug.

Edit: Okay I'm sure there are more errors in there I've not fixed, but this is the third time I've caught something in this post. It's too late for me to be coherent.

If it's a liquid, anything "Water" related will do. "Heavy Water/Rain" already exist and have their own meanings, but no reason you couldn't commandeer them. Could be colloquially called "Hydro, Aqua," and a slew of other things.

The water theme is nice because it's a necessity for life. A 100% addictive drug would essentially become a necessity for a junkie, now wouldn't it?

Could also call it Prometheus, (tho thats a bit haughty sounding), Utopia, Sanguine, Jewel, Paradigm.

I like that a lot. Midas Touch would be a good name for the story. So far, these are what I consider the best:

Midas
Red Steam
Blue Rain
Euphoria
Blue
Sanguine
Paradigm

What do you guys think?

Red steam doesn't roll of the tongue nicely. Seeing as its a drug, it would have a street name, easy to say. Maybe shorten in to Ream or something.

I like Paradigm, Sanguine, blue and steam the best.
