Trying fallout 2

Post » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:13 am

Howdy, I've recently....acquired fallout 2. I've found myself in an impass in the first level (fail, I know).

Spoiler:
Spoiler
I've searched all the tables and corpses in the temple, and I can't find anything to open the door. I can't seem to figure out how to pick the lock of the door (or find a key).

Yeah i remeber the first time i played fallout 2 i couldn't figure it out either. Finally I had to ask my brother whos like a fallout guru and found out that you to find a time bomb, plant it next to the door and run like hell. It should blast it open then.

Edit: also i dont think you need a spoiler warning...

Yea, but I checked all over. Where is this bomb?

Oh, I'll have to remember about the spoiler next time. I figured that it was best to stay on the side of caution.

The bomb is in a large vase a little ways from the door; between the two corridors going to the right.

While I don't like to disagree with people who are trying to help, the only jar is the one that gives you the healing powder.

I've quadroople checked the entire right hand side of the map.

What level lock pick do you need to get past the door w/out the explosives? I'll have to make another character and pour all the points into lockpicking skill.

it's in the jar right outside that little walk way with the ants, and before the side passage and door. there's a brick of c4 in it.

Yep, also you can't lock pick the door i believe so the c4 is your only option

nope, nothing there. I would post a screen shot, but vista isn't letting me take one. All it shows, when I paste it into paint is black.

Its the Vase right by the pit...

(Are we talking about the same screen in the temple here... Is the door kinda stone-grey or metalic?)

Is it the first locked door or the second? Because you have to pick the first one with the lockpick skill.

no no, the second. the only thing I get when I click on it is "the door apears to be locked".

Oh and the vase with the healing powder is right by the pit. Its the only vase in the whole area.

Are you playing the Fallout Megamod, since then you'll need the brick instead.

This is from memory so bare with me

First room: 2 ants, kill them. Open the door.
East: some more ants and a chest
West: 3 scorpions and a corpse

Go up the corridor and there is a locked door, Use Lockpick(2) and click on the door

Second room: Traps, you can spend time disarming these each trap(4) for 25XP each, you should level within the temple if you're lucky enough.
West: a few ants with a long vase which has c4 explosive in it
north-east: more useless ants
East: 2 scorpions
North: solid door which needs to be blown open, there's a plate underneathe the debris

third room:
West: 2 ants and the exit
east:

At this point you can spend a while healing yourself using Doctor(6) and First Aid(5)
Now, before you decide to fight him, do yourself a favour - save it.
METHOD ONE
After you've done that pull out a spear (If your Melee weapons is higher then your unarmed) or use your fists and initiate a fight with him, he has 8 Action Points.
When his health is at "severly wounded" or "Almost dead" run out of the map using the south east exit and then re-enter the map and talk to him. Say you're ready to fight and he will run off.

METHOD TWO
Sneak(1) upto him and Steal(2) the temple key off him, then use the key on the door and leave.

METHOD THREE
I don't know what causes this to happen but during the conversation you can talk him out of fighting you and he lets you through.

Apon leaving the temple you should be placed next to a well Repair(8) it and earn yourself some extra EXP.

so by your definition, Spellblade, I'm in the first room.

Could be that I'm just missing something, how do you initiate the lock picking option? Not like there's a tutorial in these old games.

You click the handy "Skilldex" button on the right side of the UI, select lockpick, and click the door. You can quick access the skilldex by pressing S (Press F1 to see a detailed help screen which includes other keyboard shortcuts). You can also hold down the mouse button over the door to get a pop up menu where you can access the skilldex by clicking Vault Boy's head... then you just select lockpick and your character will automatically try to lockpick the object in question (in this case the door).
