I'm trying... Gods know I'm trying....

Hi Everyone!

I am trying to make a new race mod, a very basic one as per Liquid Fusion's tutorial on the TR site.

And the result is resounding... nothing! I seem to be a specialist of nothingness, judging by my previous nothing-is-happening thread about the rendering window a few days ago.

I have been following Liquid Fusion's instructions to the letter, and I could have cried, so easy it was to create a race from scratch. Well, I created a new race all right, it's all there, showing the name of the race, its base attributes, its extra supa dupa special spells.

But nothing else. When I start a new game, no faces nor hair are showing, the change six, hair, face window is inactive, and finally when I get to use the third person mode, the nothingness appears in all its magnificence.

So I have nobody and no body.

So, please help, once again: I know you will, you always do!

Cheers

I don['t know the tutorial you're talking about, so maybe I''m off base here. It sounds to me like either you haven't gone into the "body part" tab on the object window and assigned body parts to your race, or you have assigned the body parts but your meshes and textures are messed up, Sp, if you can answer whether you did that or not, you can be helped without too much wasted effort.

Hi Neildarkstar

Thanks for your response.

Here follows the link for the tutorial I'm valiantly trying to endeavour to attempt conquering.

http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=modding_data/tuts/fusi/race_models

I have assigned the body parts as instructed, and the meshes and textures are the vanilla MW ones.

The plot thickens... doesn't it?

Cheers

Okay, so you went down the list of body parts and set them all to your race without changing the art button, right? So what happens if you place one of your racial NPCs in the game by dragging it into the render window? If you don't want to mess up any cells, you can probably drag them into the cell "ken's Test Hole" without any issues.

Edited to add the following:
As an afterthought, I noticed that the tutorial didn't seem to mention changing the object ID, Did you change those?

Hi Neildarkstar

Now that's interesting and news... to me alone, obviously..

I didn't know that it could be dragged to the render window; I am sorry to appear so dense about it all, in a step-by-step manner, what exactly do you drag?

I can hear a heavy sigh, from here....

No sigh, no worries,,, :)

Go to the NPC tab, click on new, give it a unique ID and choose yuor race and a head and hair.. class and all that we don't care about. Then save the character and save your mod.

Then drag the NPC you created from the NPC list and drop it into the render window after you've selected that cell and brought it into the window.

Hi Neildarkstar

Thanks for your patience and your kindness.

I clicked on the NPC tab and could not see anything "new" to click on, I just have a list of all the NPCs in MW.

You're really after a challenge, aren't you!!

Cheers

My bad... after you click on the NPC tab, right click on the NPC tab and you'll see a little list of options. Or you could just click on an existing NPC in the list and change the ID and info.

Did you make sure you set it as playable? http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/g/tuts/fusi/race05.png

Hi NZdawghaus

Coming to my rescue once more! I greatly appreciate, thank you. I'll spare you further waffle: yes, I clicked the playable box.

Neildarkstar, I clicked on the options and used both methods, ie making new NPC and using an existing one, I dragged the thing to the render window, and.... it's not rendering. However , that's a snag which has been the object of a previous thread and I think I can tackle it on my own, like a big boy.

The good news though is that upon trying once more in-game, I managed to get my race appearing as should have been the case the first time round.
It's an ugly race, but that's my baby!

So case solved, then :celebration: !!!!!!!

Thank you very much for your help and patience. :foodndrink:

Cheers and more cheers
