I'm trying a mage again. Nord, of course, as always. I favor the Nord race no matter what. By mage I mean an actual mage, a cloth-wearing, spell casting mage. No weapons (no, not even a dagger), no armor, etc. I do not like hybrids (i.e. a mage wearing armor/battlemage).
While mindless hacking, slashing and bashing is fun, I sometimes like the challenge that comes with being a glass cannon. Currently I have 100 hp and 290 magicka. I will raise health to a more sustainable level of around 250-300 and will put the rest into magicka. Stamina will stay at the default. Lydia is my personal packing mule anyway. I will not enchant away the magicka cost completely. I will do it to some extent, however.
I may create another save later on with a mindless hack/slash/bash Nord, but I'm unsure whether I'll go with a big shiny axe, a brain-bashing warhammer or just the run-of-the-mill sword/axe & board. I dunno, there's something about them axes.... Two handed weapons may be slow, but nothing says hello like an axe or hammer to the face. I do not particularly like swords. Not even curved sword. Curved. Swords.
Current Mage's name: Olaf Stormcloak. Ulfric's "forgotten" (he doesn't want to recognize someone who prefers the arcane arts) brother. He has joined the Stormcloaks and believes Skyrim should be independent. Everyone's welcome so long as Skyrim is their main interest and that they participate in actions that favor Skyrim, her sons and daughters and it's future. Even wars.
