Trying Oblivion Again

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:54 am

Hey mods people.

I've been thinking of trying Oblivion again, but there are some things I need to change, because I'm totally bored of the vanilla Xbox version. So, I've been thinking of getting myself a copy of the pc version if I can round up a few essential mods first.

After looking around and finding OOO, and a couple other things, here's what I have been really looking for:

Essential Mods stuff I NEED:
-More skills (mainly i would like to split up short blade and long blade and axe and blunt, but anything that adds more skills to the original character creation)
-I need to be able to sleep in owned beds
-I need to be able to sell stolen stuff to anyone (except the owners if possible)
-Any good little settlements and villages you can suggest, and any mods that give more to do in the existing settlements
-Guild quests to take in every guild hall and more restrictive guild advancement
-any suggestions for good factions besides the ones in OOO

Other mods I would really like, but don't necessarily need:
-more spell effects (especially levitate and teleport)
-different kinds of diseases
-spears (I noticed the polearm weapons, but do any mods add it as a separate skill)?
-No keys that need special locks, I'd like everywhere to be accessible by lockpicking or bashing (that includes the academy and the other team's bloodworks)
-any suggestions for good opening replacers
-any suggestions for good character creation mods

Thanks, everyone.

I'm not certain if there are any mods that let you sleep in any bed. So far as I understand, doing so would require manually editing every single bed, which would be time consuming and potentially cause a lot of conflicts. On the other hand you can always get your own beds (and houses) from http://www.oblivionsrealestate.com/ .

http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/ is a new site that has a ton of resources for beginning modders.

Some good mods that let you sell stolen goods and give you more thief faction quests are http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5156 and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9655.

You might also be interested in Knights of the White Stallion and The Lost Spires, both add new factions and quests.

For magic mods check out http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=814477.

Lastly, here is how you unlock any door in Oblivion:
1. press the tilde key
2. select the door or chest with mouse
3. type "unlock" followed by enter in the console.

Some of these might be of interest:

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27951 -you can also click on a bed with the console open and type setownership- I think that's right...

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25040

Villages: look for Shezrie's villages on ORE. They are wonderful. Also, Arthmoor's http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30000 and http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26643 are both nice places. My favorite village mod is http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27125- it adds two entirely new villages and greatly improves the vanilla ones with highly detailed farms, small businesses, and signs of life.

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22197 also adds new quests and gathering places for members of the Thieves Guild- another favorite of mine.

Selling stolen stuff to anyone? I don't use stuff like that myself, but there are plenty of mods that expand Shady Sam's inventory and purchasing power- it's a place to start anyway.

claim that interior and the console might be a compromise.
I'd really like to sleep in beds i don't own and get in trouble if I'm caught.

What about mods that make all NPC's killable?

But the expanded villages and thieves guild alone might be enough to make me try again.

But first i really need some new skills, if any mods exist.

Not sure if it is what you want, but when I want to sleep in an owned bed, rather than changing ownership, I just pitch my bedroll on top of the bed. Doesn't solve the problem if you are trespassing though.

You can get one of several bedroll mods. The one I use is Portable Campsite.

-more spell effects (especially levitate and teleport)

Supreme Magicka has both (if you mean Mark/Recall with teleport - there are other variants of teleportation as well). LAME has Mark/Recall I think. Midas Magic has my favorite variant of Mark/Recall and its own variants of levitation.

-any suggestions for good opening replacers

Not sure what you mean. http://www.linklost.com/occ/ is useful for trying out different builds but I guess that's not what you mean.

What i meant by opening replacers is anything that makes the way you start out different.

Like alternate beginnings for Morrowind.

-Kragenir's Death Quest should give you a little more to do in settlements. There's also other quest mods some of which add new towns/settlements/world spaces where theres things to do.

- Choices & Consequences for the second part. Theres Fighters Guild Contracts, Origin of theMages Guild, Dark Brotherhood Continued, etc. fort he first part.

- Integration: The Stranded Light has 5 joinable ones with lot's of quests. Other than that just check the quests and factions:

For the second list:
-Less Annoying Magic Experience, Supreme Magicka, Midas Magic, Fearsome Magicka, etc. The mods I specifically mentioned you can use all at the same time, and most people do.

- I'd recommend Vector. It not only adds new Diseases but it adds many ways of getting infected, being able to transfer disease to other people, stages that the disease will progress through as the disease gets worse, and many other cool features

-Race Balancing Project? Adds a bunch of lore correct races, rebalances things, and has a whole lot of hair/eyes options to choose from.
