Turn off blood?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 4:12 pm

So I was just wondering if you guys have heard if you had the option to turn off blood in brink. See, my parents are the really REALLY sheltered kind of parents and wont let me get games that have a lot of blood in them. And as you know most of the FPS games have an M rating with blood and gore, so when I saw the awesome trailer for Brink I was really excited to see that it was T and only had blood, language, and violence. So if I can turn off the blood I can definitely get the game. And even if you cant turn of blood, do you guys know if there is a serious amount of blood or just a "indication" or "smoke" of blood?

P.S. Yes im old enough to play this game (16). Yes im sheltered. Yes I have a job. No im not a little wuss that cant take some blood. XD

From the footage I've seen, there isn't a ridiculous amount of blood, and I don't think it really splatters all over walls and such.

I would assume that the developers thought the blood was mild enough that there didn't need to be an option to remove it.

I think you'll be fine.

I'm have the same problem, but since I bought the game with my own money, they can't say jack crap. But, I am not sure if you can turn off the blood, not much games have that (Castle Crashers and Serious Sam are a couple I can think of) so I'm not gonna say no, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have that option.

It isn't "I'm bleeding out" blood, but it isn't "Oh, just got hit with a red paintball" either. Best place to look is the main media page and just watch the vids and see.

Of course you could always just sell the fact that you're going to be playing as a medic and you'll be saving lives

You're welcome, and I just looked, and there's good examples of the blood in both the Ready and Able and Choir of Guns trailers.

The OP reminds me of when I showed my Dad Assassin's Creed.

First day I got it:

"Hey Dad, watch my new game"

5 minutes later...

"It's a bit violent isn't it?"

Next day, with blood turned off. In the same city, doing the same things.

"Hey Dad, watch my new game"

5 minutes later...

"Thanks for showing me, that was really amazing!"

... WTF? HE's the one who let me watch Highlander when I was 7! He watches Action movies with more blood in one scene than AC has in the whole game!

Yeah, but there's a difference between watching the blood (by the way, Highlander isn't particularly bloody) and making the blood.

The is a fair amount of blood. Especially when hitting someone at extreme close range with a shotgun.

Also it definately is more blood than I saw in the Assassin's Creed games. They just stand out for the extremely violent/cruel animations.

I've never understood parents who think like this. They're fine with their children SHOOTING AND STABBING people, but God forbid they see the color red while they're doing it.

Do they forbid you to watch medical shows too?

Tell your parents that blood exists, and from time to time it begs to show itself to the world. Simply mention that you're part of the welcoming party, and then tell them that Mortal Kombat was the best 2D fighter of all time.

Watch the gameplay videos to see if you and/or parents can handle it.
I think it's pretty minor compared to many games, and it's rated T, so it shouldn't be too bad.

I know, I went through the same thing. Even though my father watches horror and action-y stuff that has blood from time to time (and I would watch some, too, lol),
he's not one for games having blood, especially lots of blood. He doesn't mind a little, but he hates GUSHING blood like in Mortal Kombat or Gears of War and
other games like that, lol.

My mother is even worse. Even the blood splashes in CoD and Killzone games gross her out. Yet she watches House and CSI stuff that have dead bodies and blood, lol!

But, I understand. I'm from a very conservative family (and overall culture--being Hispanic) as well. My family even sometimes
thinks I should not be playing FPS'es or M-rated boy games, either, lol.

I don't think there's enough blood to warrant an option to turn it off. It's not like UT3 where if you kill someone close up their giblets splatter across the screen.

Maybe there will be a command in the Config for the violence like in many other games.

Not so much in the first game. Which was the one I showed my Dad (AC2 didn't come out until I moved out).

And Highlander's not that bloody... But it does include a fairly visible decapitation, which is normally at least as far into "not suitable for kids" as a heap of blood - and considering I was already over 21 when my Dad was saying AC was too violent... And only 7 when he let me watch Highlander... yeah...

I've never understood parents who think like this.

It's western parents primarily. I've lost track of how many Japanese fighters had their blood recoloured to look like sweat once they made its way to western shores.

Cool, i'll just have to take a chance and ask him. I'll show him a gameplay with the least amount of blood. Also i'll show him how innocent it is compared to things like Dead Space 2 XD. Hopefully ill be able to get it, this games just looks too awesome.

When you show therm the game... be in a game with friends, and parkour around a bit. Tell them the games about playing Tag >.>
Parents: "Why are they holding guns then?"
You: ".......Just in case someone cheats."

It managed a Teen rating on the ESRB, so I think you're good.

Dude I think that the fact that it isn't trying to be realistic and is trying to just be a game, will come across. And don't stress about the "sheltered" thing, I think its pretty cool that you have parents who pay attention.

In The Trailers,Like "Choir of Guns", I didnt Notice that Much Blood. The Accual Time i really say a good quantity was When he uses a Shotgun At Close Range. Other Than that, It`s Nothing To be Concerned about.

Besides, It`s the Blood amount that counts, The games devs Wont let it Float there for more than a few seconds, Due to there Engine`s Particle generation. Too many, and it makes everything Lag.
Your Parents should be more worried about Gore then blood. Gears a War for Example has some pretty nasty crap in there. Even Fallout is pretty bad for that.(BloodyMess perk)
