Turn off dynamic lighting?

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 7:58 pm

Is there a way to turn off the dynamic lighting n Skyrim? I do not like the look when turning around quickly or running through dungeons or buildings past torches etc. Its fades dark and light etc. Is there a way to disable this setting?

There is dynamic lighting in skyrim?

Perhaps the OP is referring to the HDR filter used in this game. I've noticed at times (like being blasted with dragon fire) this effect can seemingly overcompensate and the screen becomes very dark. I like it, as it adds a bit of a challenge to intense blasts of magic directed at you.

I can see how it may be distracting for others. I would try to change the HDR setting in the ini to reflect =0, then see if Skyrim even runs without it. I haven't tried :-\

Thats HDR i believe, not dynamic lighting (would be awesome if Skyrim had dynamic lighting but it doesnt, you wanna see excellent lighting look at Stalker games). But HDR is part of the post processing effects, HDR/Motion Blur etc, so far the only way to actually deactivate it is via bug in the game where post processing effects disable when an SLI setup is present in the system. So if you have an SLI setup then post processing is automaticaly disabled for some odd reason but for single card users so far i dont think theres any way to deactivate post processing effects. You can try and look for mods that maybe disable them tho, idk if there are any, but there could be, also look into ini settings that might turn them off.

I have SLI, however I still have the HDR processing so it doesn't seem to be automatically disabling for me. What this is, I find it very annoying and hope someone comes up with a way to disable it soon.

Thats odd, i have Sli turnd on and i do not have motionblur/HDR, and i dont think i have Depth of Field either. Do you have the latest beta drivers from Nvidia, the ones that add and enable Sli profile for Skyrim?, i believe its 285.79, without it Skyrim isnt runnign Sli at all unless you add the Sli compatibility flag in inspector. But if you already have the beta drivers and confirm both cards are working inside the game (same Gpu usage, Sli working) and still have post procesisng effects then it could be possible that Sli isnt the one disabling it for me and the others, could be something else, i wonder.

[Display]iActorShadowCountInt=0iActorShadowCountExt=0fLightLODMaxStartFade=0.0fLightLODStartFade=0.0000

should work

And yes there's dynamic light in Skyrim, how else do you think the outside shadows are moving as the sun sets? Or torches that light up paths and move if the player moves......

In computer graphics, shadows have nothing to do with lighting...

Lighting is what makes things light up when a light source is nearby. Such as what doesn't really happen in Skyrim when you carry a torch.

Shadows are determined by a completely separate step. Skyrim uses shadow maps, meaning it renders the scene from the point of view of single light source and then compares pixel by pixel to the scene as rendered from the player's POV, darkening pixels that aren't seen by the light source.

Well there is the console command SHP float, float, float, float, float, float, float, float, float.

A possible setting is "SHP 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 2.5, 0"
Unfortunately this is only temporary, because the game changes the settings every time you get to a loading screen.

Maybe a modder could do something.

What do you mean? Torches most certainly light things up dynamically. Magelight/candle certainly casts dynamic lighting. Even the sun is a form of dynamic lighting - it simply doesn't have a realtime refresh rate.

What makes you think torches aren't dynamic lighting?

The game has plenty of "dynamic" lighting. In fact, it kind of looks like almost all the lighting is done by placing tons of dynamic light sources everywhere. They just aren't moving.
