Turn off first person screen effects?

Post » Wed Aug 17, 2011 5:59 pm

Is there a mod out there that allows you to disable the spell effects that cover your screen while in FP mode? For example, getting lit on fire clouds the screen with flames. I'd like to keep all other graphical effects working, just disabling the first person stuff specifically.

I'd settle for even a slight reduction instead of a complete removal, but as it is now it's almost impossible to see whenever I get lit up by fire, frost, etc - kind of ruining certain areas with lots of magic users...

Here's my current mod list in case there would be incompatibility or an option I'm somehow missing(I looked through all my magic mod related ini's)

I'd be interested in a mod like this as well. It can probably be done by modifying the effects directly. I'm not sure if the effects are the same for first person or not. It could be that the reason your view gets obstructed is the effects were designed for third person and the same effect is used for first person without any regard to visibility. I might give this a try, starting with the flame effect as that one seems to be the biggest culprit. The flame effect overall will likely be diminished somewhat but atleast you'll be able to see.

Also note that I wouldn't even consider this a cheat. The AI doesn't seem to have any trouble seeing you when they're lit on fire.

Compatibility shouldn't be an issue unless you have a mod that also modifies a bunch of the effects. Even if they do you'd probably prefer the diminished effects over them anyways.

Edit: Okay, I messed around with the fire effect a little bit and managed to get it to where you can see clearly. Here's a before/after of how it looks.

It's a good bit more noticeable when it's animating. It could probably stand to be beefed up a notch or two. I might try experimenting with the blend modes, see what that does.

I too would be interested in something that reduced this. The fire effect is really the only one that obscures view- fire effect from both DOT fire and disintegrate weapon spells.

Okay, I think I found a good compromise. I raised the alpha back up a bit and lowered the scale of the particles.

Edit: Heh, apparently there's a reason the disintegrate weapon effect obscures your vision too. It uses the same effect shader as the fire effect. So, sweet, less work for me.

That's much better. Thank you! :)

Edit: A bit more input... before using this the DOT fire completely erased the lower half of my screen and DOT disintegrate weapon erased the right side- very bad situation when hit with both effects. Using this eliminates the effect in first person when weapon/hands aren't drawn for fire spells and nicely reduces it for disintegrate weapon.
