Turrets are worthless.

is it just me or are turrets completely worthless?

this very well could be because i only have the 'light turret', so maybe the other turrets actually work and start shooting at their targets in a reasonable amount of time.

so im playing a match and i set up a turret to the left of this hallway. a enemy player runs thru said choke point and i proceed to dance around the turret for literally 40 seconds, hoping my turret would wake the **** up and DO SOMETHING, but it didnt. it would seem you have to be standing literally RIGHT IN FRONT of the turret for it to track targets.

to test this theory, i found an enemy turret on the floor. i then stood in front of said turret for what seemed to be several seconds before the turret started firing at me, after which i simply moved behind it and circled around it using my melee to destroy it because it cant turn faster than you can move around it.

call me crazy, but i really think turrets need a MAJOR buff in the time it takes for them to acquire targets then shoot at them (how about 1 second, not 3..). they are literally basically USELESS in this game (keep in mind i have only used the light turret, so correct me if im wrong here).

There are only bad if you don't know how to use them!

This is fact.

Learn how to place them smarter. End of story. I'm sick of reading this crap.

I have to agree.

A properly placed Gatling turret is beast.

A proper placement includes range, angle, elevation, and above all, support.

Turrets are meant to be supplemental fire support, not hallway blockers.

If you place 2 turrets about 4m from each other facing the same direction, they are beyond overpowered.

The only improvement that I would like to see would be the ability to repair them before they are broken.

Turrets are good if used properly. Try placing them to cover bottlenecks and placing mines in the line of fire being covered by it (if not staying near the turret to repair it), the mine will knockdown the enemy and the turret will polish off anyone who survives.

Just remember that turrets shouldn't be relied on to kill on their own, but used as support fire against large groups of enemys.

I was thinking about this today, as I actually agreed at first. Sure, it seems like turrets are junk. This is especially true when you compare them to turrets in other games, like Team Fortress. However, you have to consider the turret as part of the class they go with.

Right off the bat, Engineers do the most damage with guns. Yes, they can buff other people to match their damage, but in the chaos of combat this isn't always reliable. Their self weapon damage buff is almost overpowered. Almost.

They can use all the guns everyone else can. They have the same grenade and can shoot their grenade just like everyone else can (though an upgraded soldier will do this more often with more kaboom). They have the same HP/durability/body options (except being able to kevlar themselves vs soldier skill).

Then there's pip use. Engineers can set up all their pips ahead of time, leaving them heat of battle pips free for grenades. But in the mean time they have landmine(s) set up that can very easily kill a whole group of people by themselves. AND they have their turret, which will pin/slow enemies down, potentially kill the unaware, and can even act as portable cover for a limited time.

So yes, the turret by itself is total crap. But if they make the turret better... everyone will play engineer. All. The. Time.

Why wouldn't you play the class that can do the most damage with guns without relying on another player AND can set up "free kill" turrets?

So yeah... go ahead and buff turrets. If you want the rest of the engineer class to be seriously nerfed to make up for it. :(
