Tweaking the CARB-9

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 5:47 am

I find the majority of players are using the CARB-9 as part of their load out. I hardly see any other SMG, other than them being a secondary, being used as equally. Even though it's ineffective at longer ranges, (but that's pretty much the weakness of most SMGs unless burst fired) it does too much damage at it's optimal ranges. I still want the gun to be good enough for use, but as it stands now it's a tad overpowered. If everyone is using the same gun, doesn't personal preference become meaningless? This game's highlight is the customization options, but if there is only one gun worth using, there are no real options for weaponry. Shouldn't there be some kind of draw back to raw power to balance it out?

Personally, I think the bullet damage can be reduced to something like 21/projectile. It will still be a bit more powerful damage wise than most SMGs, save the Tampa, but it wont kill a Heavy near instantaneously at mid range (or any other lighter body type). Also, I think the Tampa can get a bit more love if it becomes the highest hitting SMG, but at least it balances out with a high bullet spread.

What do you guys think should be changed to the CARB-9 in a fair tweak.

Nothing. I think it's fine as it is. I prefer the Tampa and Galactic. CARB-9 is already the most inaccurate.

Yeah, I think it is fine. I personally don't really care seeing as I primarily use the Kross as my SMG anyway.

DMG is high but I like the idea of increased recoil making spray and pray little less effective. Since the range is already p*ss (main reason I got rid of using on most maps), I believe that any of these changes would help balance the weapon. Although, a decrease in DMG may bring some whines

I disagree with this statement. Of the three you reference, my personal experiences are that the Galactic is nicely accurate, the CARB-9 is moderately accurate and the Tampa is extremely inaccurate.

On topic, the CARB-9 could use a minor reduction in power but that is all. Minor. Say.. 3-5%.

It's not that bad at range.

The thing that I notice with it is between the number of rounds and the tight spread it seems to have it takes good advantage of Aim-Assist, making it one of the more deadly weapons for running around and spraying.

I don't know that it's too much better than the others though.

Tampa is often my sidearm of choice. I find the Tampa to be pretty accurate actually. I use it with muzzle breaks and adjusted iron sights.

There have been times I've been really frustrated getting killed by nothing but CARB-9s because they're the 'it' weapon.
I just put their effectiveness down to lag mostly though, the times I've been killed by a CARB-9 with one bullet is one too many.

I think you are playing with your mind - there more to this game than just guns and your loadout will depend on how you develop your character. Hence - If you want to win, you are going to die playing hard. Brinks balance of character modding and the ingame weapon choice is very well balanced to the level of skill an individual employs. If theres too many users of CARBs, I'd be sniping them from a distance that they have no idea where the bullet came from other than it incapacitating them instantly. You can also use flashbangs and other nasty devices to slow down the fray, so why you'd think that the CARB is the standalone maxiweapon, beats me. Whilst you develop skills over 20 levels you should be moving on to weapons that are better siuted to your class and mod them for speed or distance. Theres plenty of manipulation in the game without turning it into a lame point and shoot 'Duck'.
I use a range of guns depending on my oposition and the map type. I'm not cricising people for being lazy because they only use one gun. But so you understand, I can shoot a hole in your characters head with one shot using a sniper scope and the right weapon + the correct modifications. Its really up to how you want to be challenged and also how fast you are at setting the sights and shooting on the move. There is no best weapon for any level or class, and I hope it stays that way.

i can't really decide how to nerf the Carb, but i want it nerfed also. I found it pretty inaccurate at the beginning, but then i had not all attachments unlocked yet. Also i thought: they nerf the Carb anyway, so why get used to it now? :D
So i played mostly with Bulpdaun/Galaxy. But after a myriad of Carb caused deaths (it really seems to be the most preferred SMG by far), i tried it out again. And holy :spotted owl:, this gun really is too strong. Everything i aimed at was dead in a second, the difference to the other SMGs was very significant. All those close battles i prolly would have lost before, i did win now because of the sheer Carb power.
So yeah, it needs a little tweak i find. I don't really mind if the damage or the accuracy is decreased, i just like to see it slightly nerfed, so i don't have to feel bad getting back to my Bulpdaun again lol. :hubbahubba:

I don't remember which one it is now between the Tampa and CARB-9, I haven't used either in ages... But one has better range/accuracy for spray-and-pray, and the other is better at burst-firing. Someone tell me which is which?

Personally, I stick to the Galactic for my SMG of choice when I'm using a Silenced weapon, and switch to the Bulpdaun when I'm not as concerned about stealth.

The weapon is fine. Just because it seems like a lot use it, doesn't mean it is overpowered necessarily. I use the Kross Smg instead. It deals less damage but has less recoil and better stability. When I am sliding around like a Ninja, I rather not be spraying everywhere. Carb is fine. Leave it alone, please.

I'd like to see less range.

I think burst firing from the hip with an assault rifle should usually beat an SMG at medium range. I think KZ2 nailed the AR/SMG balance... they made AR hipfiring the most effective medium range tactic...but the SMG didn't feel weak because it destroyed and extremely close range.

So, OP, with a whole bunch of "no change" comments, how about giving them an option to vote on the poll?
